Compare the Similarities or Differences Between Working as a Group to Complete an Assignment and Working Alone to Complete the Assignment
Andrew Carnegie – a famous businessman, the King of Steel once said “ Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results ”. Some people like to work independently, while others would prefer to work in a team. Is it more important to be able to work with a team or to work independently? Depending upon different personal traits and working environment, people will have different answers to this question. However, working as a group to complete an assignment and working alone to complete the assignment seem totally opposite. One obvious difference is working method. When you work alone, you can do everything in your own way. You can work independently without having to depend on other people's opinions. Moreover, you have to make a clear plan for your work as well as arrange your time to finish the assignment logically to achieve the best performance. In contrast, when you work in groups, work will be assigned specificly to team members, each member takes a different job. Team work requires effort of all members, if a member doesn’t accomplish his job well, it will affect the work of all group. Each member oneself should understand that one person is a part of team but not separate individual. In addition, helping each other to complete progress of work is necessary though that task is not belonging to one’s job. The final result is all team’s efforts. Therefore, teamwork requires all member must have a sense of responsibility for their work.
The second difference is working result. Admittedly, working in groups will much more efficient than working individually. The most effective team are able to solve complex problems more easily than one person can, for many capable minds are brought to bear on an issue. Having a team involved in a certain task is more productive than assigning it to only 1 person.

This does not mean that the individual is not important anymore, but, it does mean that effective and efficient teamwork goes beyond individual accomplishments. Initially, I had a negative view on group working because of the challenges that I had. When I was in high school, my five other friends and I used to work together in a music competition. Although we were supposed to get together to practice for the event, we were only able to meet up once a week. In addition to having a hard time with time scheduling, we often did not have a consensus of opinion. Whenever we had a discussion, we usually ended up with no results. So it always took a long time for us to make a decision. Consequently, the performance did not turn out as well as we expected. Because of this initial failure, I thought group work was time consuming and ineffective. However, I have changed my opinion lately because of the successful results in some of my laboratory classes. In each laboratory assignment, it is nearly impossible to work by myself because there are a lot of steps and each step needs to be very precise and accurate. Therefore, a group of two or three students will work more effectively compared to an individual because they can help to remind each other and finish the assignment faster. Based on those experiences, one more time I give myself a chance to work in a group and figured out how work effectively. Finally, thank to the Small group communication class, I found out that group work can become very productive if all the members in the group cooperate and follow the principles of small group communication. In this paper, I want to talk…

A team is a group of people who are collectively working towards something, such as a basketball team working to win a game by combining the players' talents. A basketball team has a leader within a team, but the other players don’t need to seek the leader continuous leadership like orchestra conductor leading the musicians all the time. The Orchestra musicians all have scores before them that tell them what to play, which makes them independent although they coordinate their efforts while a basketball plays need to interact and interdependent to score a goal. It doesn’t matter who scores the goal, less individual and more team type. Orchestra musicians are delegated to play their parts or instruments while basketball team although the five positions (point guard, shooting guard, center, power forward, and small forward) can be thought of as a role, these roles can be a hybrid when each player is required to play two or more positions at one time. This is due to the nature of the sport where players move around the court and play flexibly, doing what is needed in a given situation. Therefore, a group is like orchestra instrumentalists playing classical music. A group of performers playing various musical instruments to produce playing the desired music. In this case, a member associated together in producing the music or members responsible for their own contributions. A group is simply a collocation of people gathered to do something on an individual basis and they may or may not be together, but they are not necessarily working towards a specific goal. Finally, in some instantiate a team has a temporary lifespan and team resolve conflict quickly and constructively than a…
