Comparing Cell Theory Parts to real world applications

Cell Membrane compared to a house- Cellmembrane = screen on porch or window, lysosome is garbage disposal or recycling bin, vacuole is a water storage tank, er are hallways, mitochondria is a furnace or electrical generator, ribosomes could be the kitchen oven that's making dinner, the nucleus is the parent
Lysome- Cell Wall- probably be like a city wall surrounding the city, protecting it and defining the boundaries (osmotic control, protection, mechanical support).
Cell Membrane- this would be the guards just inside the city wall, controlling who can enter and leave the city (selective permeability).
Nucleus- this would be like, parliament i guess...a group deciding what should happen inside the city (control centre).
Ribosomes- this is the industrial area of the city, creating building materials to extend and develop the city (proteins).
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum- these are couriers who collect the materials from the industrial site and take it to where it is needed (carry proteins).
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum- another industrial site which creates packages to send and communicate with other cities (steroids).
Mitochondria- the electricity generator which creates energy for the city (ATP).
Golgi Apparatus- the postal system of the city, collecting, processing and transporting (molecules) around and out of the city.
Chloroplasts- the food manufacturing plant in a city!
Plasmodesma- roads connecting the cities along which communication can occur.
Lysosomes- units of military personnel, who can attack and invaders (bacteria) and those who do not work properly (unwanted organelles) and kick them out of the city. (turning out to be a bit of a right-wing city here! :S)
Cytoplasm- this is the general streets and landscape of the city, where all these things (metabolic reactions) take place!
Sap Vacuole- a large compound where many useful substances which might be needed in the city are stored.

Mitochondria- The caferteria receives the raw food, the cooks prepare it and give it to the students and staff and thus provide the energy (at least the afternoon energy) to drive the students and the teachers.
Chromosomes- 1 city (a unique species) has different restaurants (or chromosomes) within it. If you go into each restaurant, you can see the menu, which is like the DNA. The Menu has specific meals that you can order; like each chromosome has different genes that code for different traits/characteristics. a smallCity=unique species Each different restaurant=different chromosomes each menu at the restaurant= DNA within the chromosome each meal that gives you specific food= genes that give you specific traits
Golgi body- compared to an air filter because it lets the good stuff in and takes the bad stuff out. Or maybe in an airport it could be compared to the security check line so it lets all of your stuff in, but if you have a gun or knife, they’ll take it away.
Endoplasmic reticulum- the piping in a house because it carries the water all over the house and lets it gets to the places it needs to be. While the function of the nucleus is to act as the cell brain, the ER functions as a packaging system. It does not work alone.
Cytoplasm- all the wires in a computer because thats how everything gets from one part of the computer to the other. and cytoplasm is like the road ways of the cell
Centrioles- A centriole could be like a truck with a tow cable attached. The centriole is the truck, the spindle fibers are the cables. You attach the cable to a metal beam in a pile, then retract the cable to pull the beam to the truck. It's like how in the cell the centriole sends out the spindle fiber which attaches to the chromosome then retracts to pull it to the centriole.
Vacuole- I think a vacuole can be compared to a balloon full of air or something because a vacuole is full of waste and things so its kind of like a ballon. Yea It could also be compared maybe to a landfill where all of the trash goes like in a cell , how all of the waste goes to the vacuole.
Nucleus- You could easily compare it to the building where all the offices at your school are, because that's the area that makes the school run correctly. If something were to break in one of the bathrooms a phone call would come from one of those offices telling someone to go fix it. Like the offices, the nucleus is what makes everything run correctly. When the cell needs a protein made that will do a particular job it sends messenger RNA, which I am comparing to the phone call to fix the bathroom. The genetic information within each cell is carried in the nucleus on that cell's DNA. When decoded, DNA tells the cell how to make specific proteins. Ribosomes are small organelles outside the nucleus where proteins are made. Although a cell's DNA carries the blueprint that directs the production of proteins, DNA cannot leave the nucleus. For a cell to get DNA's blueprint for proteins to the ribosomes, a strand of messenger RNA (mRNA) is created. The process in which DNA makes mRNA is called transcription.
Ribosomes- You might say that ribosomes would be like the teachers. Ribosomes translate mRNA templates into proteins. Teachers translate the standards and information present in textbooks into information that can be used by students (by performing examples, drawing diagrams, providing hands-on activities, and so forth). Knowledge and information in general would be the DNA, the information in the textbook would be the mRNA transcription, and the practical, applicable information that the teacher dispenses would be the protein product.

Answer: Nuc is short for nucleus; the functions for a nucleus is information storage, transmission, ribosome subunit assembly, and structural support. Flag stands for flagella; the flagella is a tail-like piece of the cell that allows it to swim through liquid. ER stands for endoplasmic reticulum; the endoplasmic reticulum is used for protein synthesis and processing. Mito is short for mitochondrion; the mitochondrion is in charge of making energy (ATP production). Golgi is short for golgi apparatus; golgi does the protein, lipid, and carbohydrate processing. Ves is short for vesicle; the vesicle’s function is to store things. Finally, Lys is short for lysosomes; a lysosome is used to break up food in the cell.…

Rough endoplasmic reticulum- Rough endoplasmic reticulum is very important in the synthesis and packaging of proteins. Some of those proteins might be used in the cell and some are sent out. The ribosomes are attached to the membrane of the ER. As the ribosome builds the amino acid chain, the chain is pushed into the ER. When the protein is complete, the rough ER pinches off a vesicle. That vesicle, a small membrane bubble, can move to the cell membrane or the Golgi apparatus.…
