When writing literary criticism one must ponder upon the significance of the topic to the literary canon as a whole. While there may not be a single definitive answer to how significant a topic is, one can question if the topic has been neglected or rejected by Western literary circles. If the answer is “yes,” then it is the critics’ duty to refashion the spotlight on the text. It was not until the 1970’s where feminism influenced the revival of texts authored by women. Historically conditioned suppositions of male superiority has allowed the sex to dominate certain genres of literature, moreover men are given recognition for ideas that are thought of as revolutionary and original where, in fact, silenced female authors have reflected upon, and even perfected those thoughts. Henry Louis Gates Jr. writes in Introduction to Writing…

His boyish looks make him seem to young for politics whereas in comparison his political opponent Stephen Harper is a older male who is settled down giving the framing that to be a true candidate in politics one must be older more mature, this is not a clear definition that Trudeau is not able to run a country. Trudeau has made mistakes in the past from being young which the Conservative party is sure to mention to the public to get votes. By the Conservatives exploiting Trudeau makes Stephen Harper look good as a candidate. The media itself puts into societies minds that a political leader of the country should follow certain qualities. They are as follows; to be masculine, take charge and make decisions that will help all, put aside the personal life, engage or communicate with people and to be confident just to name a few. Through these gendered stereotype’s Trudeau is no reason he does not fit under these categories, his voice may be higher pitched and less monotone as Harpers but this is not a linguist reason for him to be categorized into a female role. Trudeau has put aside his personal life; only the conservatives pull out his past to put him down as a leader. He engages people through communication and this specific event is a way to specifically focus on women and their concerns and questions yet media easily takes this and makes it become a sexist event, which was…

During my junior year of high school, I somewhat became aware of Women's Right Issue. I have made an effort to evaluate majority of the culture standard that I had previously taken in as it just being “the untaught order of items.” One of the directions that I took to enlarge my knowledge of the female soul involved in women’s creative writing. That is one reason why I spent some time of my life crying, laughing, feeling puzzled, and often, feeling livid and worried. It all started when I decided to pick up a book called “The Women’s Room” and read the book.…
In addition it compares male comedians and female comedians. For example it talks about how Jerry Lewis a famous comedian doesn't like any female comedians. And how that's okay because we can have millions of other women say how they didn't like any of Jerry Lewis's movies. One particular book that contains the topic of sexism embedded inside is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. In the novel, Scout who is a tomboy, is constantly reminded to be a lady (Lee 50), as if being a lady means to be proper. Scout is expected to act like a lady, which means that she cannot go around playing outside with the other kids in the neighborhood. Later on in the book, without even realizing it, Atticus, who is a lawyer and Scout’s father, makes a remark about the ladies of Maycomb. Atticus says to Scout, “‘I guess it’s to protect our frail ladies from sordid cases like Tom’s’”(Lee 296). He implies that women are not strong enough to serve on the jury and that they need to be protected from the harsh truths found in court. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is another novel that uses gender inequality to get a point across to readers. Curley’s wife, who has been called a tart numerous times, is the only woman on the ranch. She has no one to talk to besides Curley, who is an aggressive man that doesn’t understand her. Whenever she tries to approach other men on the ranch, she is called out and is disrespected because a “‘ranch with a bunch of guys on it ain’t no place for a girl’” (Steinbeck 57). When she marries Curley, all of her previous identity is gone; she is only referred to as Curley’s wife. In literature, sexism is a popular yet effective material because authors are able to embed it into their own writing…
The treatment of women in the workplace, school and wider society has evolved since the first wave of feminism. But to what extent are women treated as equal to their male counterpart? The persistent gap between the treatment of men and women even after the first wave of feminism provoked a second wave. George Eliot was the pen name of Mary Ann Evans, a leading author of the 19th Century. She used a male pen name, she said, to ensure her works would be taken seriously.
