This is one of the differences between
Todd and Holden, Todd would stay miserable and keep his parents happy and keep up his imagine whereas Holden would rather run away and keep being sent to new schools making his parents look bad and be real instead of being a "phony" as Holden would say. In the catcher in the rye Holden doesn't talk much about his parents but you can imagine that they are kind people after going through the loss of loosing a child. That after they lost that child it might have become too painful to keep Holden around which is why they sent him to boarding school. With that kind of loss something might have changed in Holden, he could have thought my parents don't care that's why they sent me away. Most kids who act out do it to attract attention from their parents or someone they care about. Todd Anderson had the exact opposite parents, while they might not be great at showing love they did care about him and wanted the best for him while Holden's parents just wanted to send him away. This is one of their differences, that also makes it one of their similarities.
