The Archetypes of Christopher Columbus , Thomas Edison , and Mendel all illustrate that Imagination has a part to play in making dreams become reality and the impetus of change still lies in imagination which is a powerful tool in the right hands or should I say, the right brain. …show more content…
As an illustration example of Christopher Columbus's discovery exemplifies the importance imagination has over knowledge.
Up until 1942, all the Europeans believed that the world was flat and resisted to accept Christopher's hypothesis that the world is round. When Columbus wanted to sail west and prove his theory, the queen tried to stop him and convince him that his theory contradicts the scientific rules. However, Columbus didn't give in to the scientific rules and let himself be guided by his imagination and inspiration. Consequently, Columbus arranged a ship that sailed to the west until he finally reached America. In conclusion, Columbus had fantasies a theory that lead him to one of the most influential discoveries in history. Columbus's imagination was definitely more beneficial than the general consensus that the world is
flat.
" The imagination exercises a powerful influence over every act of sense, thought, reason and over every idea." - Alexander Pope
Imagination is the building plan that guides knowledge , Furthermore, when one get one's goal, one need imagination to achieve one's aim, more over this notion can be observed through the example of Edison. Do any one in the ancient time, imagined that one day human would have electric light? No, no one except Edison for he had a goal to light the world. So he imagined how to invent a light. Although he failed thousands of times, he never gave up. At that time some people thought that this imagination is fancy, but it is Edison's imagination that taught him make the light. You may know that it is imagination that bring idea to us and make us achieve our goals. “Our imagination flies -- we are its shadow on the earth.” - ― Vladimir Nabokov
Knowledge is the technical components, such as the engine or the steering wheel that allow people to move towards these goals ; for instance, the greatest inventors and artists were always people of great imagination. Let`s take for example Mendel. He was a priest and lived in a remote church. He was definitely not the most educated person of his time. He just sawed his pea seeds and carefully recorded what came of them. It might seem like a weird way to waste time to the "busy" people of knowledge who are always working, however, his imagination helped him start a new field in the Biology, and he never even strives to do that. And there are many more examples in this principle in science. It is not the knowledgeable who do the important thing, but the people with great imagination.
"Imagination is the eye of the soul." - Joseph Joubert
In the light of above mentioned examples, It become the evidence that the imagination undertaking at how Christopher Columbus's discovery, Edison's experience and Mendel's theory keep that the Imagination and fantasy just enable them to have the creativity to develop some new knowledge ; Indeed, Imagination is necessary for innovation and change in our world.
