Thomas Jefferson was the major author of the Declaration of Independence while Lafayette was the author of the Declaration of the Rights of Man. Jefferson and Lafayette were very close friends. Lafayette was considered “the Nation’s Guest” because he frequently visited to see Jefferson, Washington, and many others. Lafayette was inspired by what Jefferson put into the Declaration of Independence and modeled his own declaration after it. The two shared many ideas that helped in the shaping of both of our nations.
The Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Declaration of Independence were documents that were written in completely different countries. No matter how different the countries were at the time, however, these two documents seem to contain some of the same concepts because of the authors of the documents.
