Comparing 'Lamb To The Slaughter And The Necklace'
The story "The Necklace" has more situational irony in my opinion then the story "Lamb to the Slaughter" which has less situational irony. Both of the stories have situational irony, but "The Necklace" tells more of a good story then "Lamb to the Slaughter." They all both good stories. The stories "Lamb to the Slaughter" and "The Necklace" both had good meanings. "The Necklace" tells a better story because the story explained how the main character which was Mathilde and she was very spoiled and she was very greedy. She was never satisfied of what she has been given. She would always ask for more from her husband and she was middle class, but she would always say she was poor. "She had no evening clothes, no jewels, nothing. But those

Have you ever seen someone killed with a lamb leg? Neither have I. “Lamb to the Slaughter” by Roald Dahl is the obvious choice for a movie adaptation. “Lamb to the Slaughter” will make a better and more enjoyable movie adaptation Than “The Dinner Party” by Mona Gardner, because “Lamb to the Slaughter” has a well developed main character, room for a sequel, and is a much longer story.…

Desperation often stems from a lack of something. It could be a result of the lack of fulfillment in basic human emotions such as freedom, compassion, love, happiness or companionship. In these 2 stories, desperation manifests itself through the lack of position, class and money or the struggle to maintain obsolete traditions. When dealing with social and moral issues, the third person narrative allows the viewer to be more objective. In this instance, the tone is heavy, gloomy and full of irony. The expedition in each story foreshadows the tragic events to come. In “The Necklace”, the main character Mathilde, carries a blind sense of entitlement, which makes her feel as though she has been born into the wrong social class. She longs for a life of opulent luxury. Although she comes from a middle class background, she refuses to be looked down upon and feels as though she belongs in the upper level of society.…

The short story, ”Lamb to the Slaughter” by Roald Dahl and the film version directed by Alfred Hitchcock take place in America. The characters in this story are Mary and Patrick Maloney. In this story Mary gets very upset when she finds out that Patrick is going to leave her, so without thinking, she kills him with a leg of a lamb. At first she doesn’t realize what she did, but when she does, she calls the police and tries to convince herself that she didn’t do it. There are three significant differences between the text and the movie. The first difference is when Patrick tells Mary that he is going to leave. In the story we never find out what Patrick tells Mary that makes her so upset. I think in this change added to the story because it…

First, Lamb to the Slaughter, a short and fiction story by Roald Dahl. Oh yeah don’t forget the moral of the story, betrayal because her husband left the one she married the one she trusted just left and she killed him and she felt a little serenity then felt bad. Next, Lamb to the Slaughter does not give an exact time or place in the story but it was published in the 1950’s so it was probably somewhere in that time zone. But it said they were in her house and he was in the living room when he was killed by his wife.…

He shows more of the theme each time when a conflict happens between her and the other people. Similarities that these passages have are. Both passages were a murder story that had to deal with a husband and wive. The setting of the stories was both back in the day around 1920’s in a small town. The titles for both stories helped explain a part of what the story was about. For example, Lamb to the slaughter, it gave away the murder weapon, but also explains the wife and how you would never expect a lamb to kill something because they are such calm animals, and she was a peaceful lady.…

Irony is humour where one uses language to express the opposite of its actual meaning, which can often be dark. In ‘Lamb to the Slaughter’, irony is expressed when the police officers and crime scene investigators are all wondering where the murder weapon is and what it is. They stated “It could be right under our noses”, and it actually is since Mary Melony killed Patrick Melony with a leg of lamb, and they were eating it because Mary prepared and served it to them. This makes the story unusually humorous since it is a story about a brutal murder, but the irony creates a humorous plot twist that makes any reader laugh and continue to…

In comparison I would say the necklace is better then Lamb to the Slaughter. I say this because Lamb of the Slaughter wasn't that more of irony, but more of what was expected to happen. Like in the story Lamb of the Slaughter when she gets sad and mad, I kinda knew that she would do something about it. I also knew when she walked behind her husband she was going to hit him in the back of the head. Now in The Necklace in the beginning of the story, it had this girl named Mathidle Loisel, she is in middle class, and she wishes to be more wealthy, she just dreams and images of living a perfect life that she's not having.…
