In the Penny Cleaning Lab, my hypothesis, which stated that the lemon juice would be the best at cleaning the penny since it is an acid and acids are particularly good at cleaning metallic substances, was indeed valid. First, we started out with 1mL solutions of all the substances in the test tray. We dipped the pH paper in each solution for about a second and recorded the pH level for each substance. Before starting, we noticed that all the pennies were in some shade of brown, which I predicted this to be copper oxide. In order to make things as efficient as possible, we soaked two pennies at a time for three minutes for each solution and penny. I think the change in brightness occurred because of the energy levels the temperatures produced. The heated water produced more light because heat results and creates light and energy. As well the heat caused the glow stick particles to move more rapidly which was as well due to the increase of energy. However I think the change in brightness in the other beaker was a result of loss of energy. By putting the glow stick into the cold water you are depriving it from heat, energy and light thus a decrease in the particle movements of the glow stick which results into dimness. The professor opposes this point by explaining that the experiment was not perfect enough to accurately measure the effect of it because it assumed that the mirror was used to set wooden ships on fire. When you think of a story you think of the ending, maybe a happy ending, maybe a sad ending. But in all story’s, it must come to an end. In Penny in the dust by Ernest Buckler, and Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl , the endings are very different. In Penny in the Dust a boy named Dan, his father gives him a penny which was very special to the boy but he loses it, then the father looks for it and finds it. The boy explains he was make believing that they got their automobile that they had dreamed for, the father kept that penny to remember that memory. In Lamb to the Slaughter a man confesses that he has had an affair to his 6 month pregnant wife. The wife then proceeds to go down stairs to get a leg of lamb and hits him in the back of the head killing him. She covers her tracks before the she calls the cops, they couldn’t find the murder weapon because it is the leg of lamb which is in the oven cooking. They then eat the lamb, which is the murder weapon. The wife gets away with the murder due to the cops eating the murder weapon. There are many differences and similarities in these two…
It is more challenging to be a parent than it is to be a child. This is represented throughout the short stories, “Penny in the Dust”, and, “The Leaving.” Both of these stories show how being a parent can be hard, the job of motherhood, and trying to mend broken relationships within the family, back together. The characters in these stories go through hard times; trying to connect with their family members that they may have an ongoing trial of miscommunication with. Parents will always have a couple of bumps along the way in their parenting, and most-likely experience rough patches with the relationships in the family.…

In the book Nickel and Dimed on (Not) getting by in America, the author lived a life of a low wage worker. This experiment, while deemed insightful by some people, was considered dull and unrealistic to one of my classmates. In response to the question, “What parts of the book made Ehrenreich’s experience unrealistic?” my peer said, “She didn’t experience what low wage workers really went through. In Into the Wild, McCandless really went into the wild and experienced everything, but Ehrenreich didn’t live a poor life. If she had done that it would have made for a much more interesting book.” I agree with my classmate on this comment because while I did learn about some struggles that low wage workers have to go through, I didn’t learn what…
