The whole plot is just Brian tries to survive in the wilderness. It is very prominent in this book. Another theme is boy vs nature. It is similar to survival. Brian has to go against nature to survive. For example, he had to go against a tornado at the end. The way that he resolves the conflicts is he makes shelter and he just does whatever he can to survive. He ends up finding a transmitter and he gets rescued too. The theme is the brutality of war. When the college friends were discussing about the war they’re about to take part in, Kropp said “Two years of shells and bombs a man won’t peel it off as easy as a sock” (Remarque 87). This shows the brutality of the war because it describes the effect the war puts on people is not easy to forget and for many, it’s permanent. As the friends were taking turns discussing war, Albert explained his view saying “The war has ruined us for everything” (Remarque 87). This shows brutality of war as well because it shows how broad the effect war is on people’s life. The theme of this book makes it a good book because its outcomes relates to the wars going on around the world right now. And it has important message/lesson on life in the front in the Great War, instead of just viewing the honor/patriotic part of the war it mainly focused on a very important part; fear and pressure. Thus the theme of this book is the brutality of war because of the characters description of the life at the front.…

The theme is one way that humans can feel loneliness in these two stories. In “On the rainy river”, the main character is confused about the decision he has to make, either swim to Canada or go fight in the war. In “The Minster’s Black Veil”, the minster has a secret sin that he keeps to his self until his death. According to this quote, “The style reaches a level of comic burlesque in the description of the deputation” (Dorsey). The protagonist in each story has to live with the decisions that they make, even though they know it is the wrong choices.…

Matt closes his book and sets it down on his table after finishing the last page. He wonders why Mrs. Brothers chose this book. What was the point of reading it? What was the theme? The book “Nightjohn” is set back in the late 1700s and is focused on slavery and their life and struggles. The plot of the story helped develop the theme of never giving up by providing challenges like the failiure of the fire. When the littluns spotted a "beast" it distracted the older boys from the task at hand but they were able to resolve that there was no such thing but many little ones did not believe that. As I said this posed a obstacle to go around because of the distraction. The plot also developed the theme by the ship that passed while the fire was out. It made Ralph more aware and work harder at his goal to get rescued. Another sign of the plot developing the theme is Piggy always being pushed away from everything but he still keeps on trying to get into all the action so he is stopping at nothing to be a part of the group.…

The theme of the story is to forgive no matter what. The theme effects the story because if the people of Mars don’t forgive the people of Earth; then the people of Earth will die. On page 52 and 53 is says, “ Were asking to be taken in, we will do the things you used to do for us, work your fields, clean your houses and even cook your meals.” This quote is reliable because it comes directly from the story. The theme shows that the people of Mars are forgiving. On page 56 it says, “ You won’t have to do that. His fingers were opening and the rope fell to the ground coiling around itself along the ground.” This quote shows that the people of Mars have chose to forgive, and save the people of Earth. A theme is a unifying or dominant idea and clearly portrayed in this novella a few obvious themes may include defiance, rebellion, fear of the unknown and fear of death. This passage more so focuses on the theme of defiance; as they claimed "We light cigarettes against orders..". There is a higher authority that has set rules for the soldiers. This idea of the 2 soldiers disobeying the rules is a very easily targeted example of rebellion or a rebellious act. As well as the soldier spoke of not falling asleep on sentry duty and when he noticed the second soldier Fry falling…

The theme of grief is the most important theme in the book. The author herself understands what this family experiences. In her book, Lucky, she tells the story of her own rape and near murder. This kind of experience can be so devastating that the victim must grieve what happened to her and how she has changed. We see her own experience in Susie, who not only must follow her family’s progress through grief, but also her own progress. It is a kind of primer or textbook for us all. We, too, could someday face what the author and her characters have endured. The theme also allows the reader to understand these characters better, even George Harvey, the monster.…
