What is love without some cynical plotting, murder, and egotistical men? Robert Browning seems to enjoy these characteristics in his two poems, Porphyria’s Lover and My Last Duchess. These texts happen to have some similarities, and in additional they have differences. Even though the overall topic, love and death, has similarities like; a female death, beautiful women, and uncaring men. Browning’s poems are dark and mysterious, and he has the ability to convey different serious about similar topics. Love, deceit, and death were large themes though out poems, different interpretations can be made of both, which can cause readers to come to different conclusions of the poems by Browning.
