The Protestant Reformation caused many changes in the political and social aspects of European life, most notably the tension between the Catholics and Protestants at the time period, greater rights for women, and the further expansion of education. The tension between the Catholics and Protestants led to many different political changes throughout Europe. Women, where before had near no rights, now had much more than they had ever been seen before in European culture. Whereas in the Renaissance, although there were expansions in education, it was available to only the elite, it now was becoming more open for a common person.. These changes not only reformed that time period but have lasting impacts on life to the date.…
The Protestant Reformation (PR) and the Civil Rights Movement (CR) are very similar and different in many ways. The PR had Martin Luther a German priest and professor of theology who initiated the Protestant Reformation. The CR had Martin Luther King jr. an American clergyman, activist, and prominent leader in the Civil Rights Movement. Some people say that it was MLK’s destiny to be a leader but others say it was a coincidence. But in the end both impacted the world greatly.…
Repentance is at the center of Christian life, but the sacraments of the Church do not reflect this focus…
The end of the fifteenth century had left Christendom with a Church in great need of reform. The Church had been greatly weakened by the events of the past few centuries. The fourteenth century’s Great Famine and Black Death had battered the public’s trust in the Church, as had the Papal Schism spanning from 1378-1417. When the ideas of Martin Luther began to spread in the early 1500s, the Church became afraid for its power, its reputation, and its finances. Luther was promising people that they would be saved through their faith alone—what place did that leave for the Church and its teachings? In any other time in human history, Luther’s ideas likely would have been quietly beaten down and buried, but a very unique set of circumstances allowed the ideas of a small-town monk and professor to take on the immense power of the Catholic Church. While others’ ideas could be ignored, the Church was intensely threatened by Luther because his ideas questioned the role and necessity of their already-weakened institution, called for an end to indulgences, endangered social stability, and exposed the failings of the Church by returning to the Bible as the only source of God’s truth.…
During the Catholic and Protestant reformation in the 1500s there was a shift in the people of Europe and in their culture. The European view on faith changed and they began to move more away from the rituals, and if it were not for the Reformation the Europeans would not have been able to get away from the power of the Church.…
I. The three “alones” of Reformation theology is Faith alone, Scripture alone, and Grace alone. Salvation is a gift given to humans by God’s grace, and through faith alone we receive this gift of salvation. If we erroneously believe that our own actions, such as going to church and obeying the Ten Commandments, play a role in achieving salvation, then salvation would no longer be a gift from God but rather a sort of human accomplishment. In order to be given the gift of salvation, we simply need to receive it rather than pursue it by our own actions. By faith alone, we are forgiven; there is no additional “requirement” of us to do something in order to earn this salvation. We know that God is favorable to us by trusting in the promises of God, which are dictated in Scripture. So, through faith we trust in Scripture, and in Scripture we see God’s promise of salvation to all that believe. Finally, through God’s grace alone we are forgiven and saved because God’s promise of salvation is made by grace. God’s grace is…

Narrator: An epidemic has spread through the land, not one of disease and illness, but of religious, political, and social change. A Reformation was in place, a religious movement that resulted in the establishment of Protestant churches. Four men who contributed to this reform of the Catholic and Protestant churches were King Henry VIII, Martin Luther, Pope Leo X, and John Calvin, and they have gathered to discuss how this Reformation dramatically changed Christian unity in Europe.…
The Protestant Reformation was a religious and social movement that spread far across Europe among many groups of people. Particularly, several events throughout the 16th and 17th centuries furthered the reformation of closely-knit religion and society, with many people drifting away from a Catholic monastic lifestyle and absolute obedience to papal authorities. Instead, these people valued faith and freedom from religious beliefs and institutions that seemed foreign to Christian faith. Many protestants were of lower social classes, in favor of freeing themselves from the higher institutions controlling them and hopeful with the possibility of eventual social mobility. Protestant ideas in favor of the lower classes led to an uprising of peasants…

Kathleen Hughes article she reflects upon Pope Paul VI’s powerful metaphor with relation to the Rite of Penance – Walking on the edge of two great abysses – sin and love, sin and grace and death and resurrection. Reconciliation is an invitation to plunge into God’s mercy, love and forgiveness and deepen our friendship with Christ. Sin represents everything that destroys our friendship with God. Reconciliation repairs our relationship with God. Reconciliation begins when a person is incorporated into the body of Christ at baptism. We maintain and strengthen this relationship through the eucharist and reconciliation. Eucharist is the regular sacrament that renews and strengthens our baptismal reconciliation. We have the sacrament of ‘reconciliation’ when we do something to damage our union with Christ, to restore the relationship. This is how the sacrament of reconciliation is a ‘sacrament of conversion’.…

In 1517, German monk Martin Luther cited his grievances as he nailed the 95 Theses to the wall of the church in Wittenberg. Luther’s complaints centered around his disapproval of the selling of indulgences, as the clergy asked for gifts and money in exchange for the remission of one’s sins and to lessen one’s suffering in purgatory or even the chance of eternal life. The citing of these grievances is believed to have begun the Protestant Reformation, with the intention of recreating the Catholic Church. However, Luther was a very controversial figure of the Reformation as he would often contradict himself in various speeches and written works and allow himself to appear as a hypocrite regarding his own beliefs. I argue that In Against the Robbing and Murdering Hordes of Peasants, Martin Luther unjustifiably takes on the responsibility of God himself, as he advocates against the peasants and proposes their murder as a solution; although Luther attempts to justify himself in both of the analyzed works, he is plagued by multiple self-induced paradoxes and contradictions within his works as he commits multiple deadly sins, including going against his own explained words of God, which is best evidenced by the aforementioned In Against the Robbing and Murdering Hordes of Peasants as well as his pamphlet called Freedom of a Christian. Additionally, Luther’s hypocrisy allows for his himself to emerge as selfish and deceitful and willing to go to seemingly any extent to spread the Protestant Reformation in circumstances that will be most beneficial to himself by appealing to the people he desires, and even disregarding mass deaths as a possible consequence in the process.…
For law reform process to legally commence a process takes place before anything is legally legislated and any new Bills, laws, legislations, amendments are given out. A process takes place within which a group of conditions, agencies and mechanisms and groups take place to help with the law reform. Conditions is the number one step throughout law reform as conditions are continuously evolving due to societies values and their beliefs. Values and beliefs is one of the most staple reason why law reform makes place as a community/society does not agree with the current conditions and legislations regarding their values and beliefs. Throughout the history of Europe, people’s lives revolved around the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church taught its beliefs through the clergy and exercised its authority. In 1517, corruption, false teachings, and the challenging of Martin Luther led to a split that created the Protestant Church. During the Reformation, the Protestant belief in “sola scriptura” and “sola fides” was a major source of conflict with the Catholic teachings of a Church authority and salvation through good works.…
