One main difference was the degree of the couple's separation. Pyramus and Thisbe were separated by a wall, “In the wall both houses… two young people discovered the hole and they were able to whisper sweetly back and forth.”, (Ovid, 488). Romeo and Juliet were separated by city after Romeo was banished to Mantua, “Not body’s death, but body’s banishment.”, (Shakespeare, 434). Therefore the two couples had different ways of communicating. Romeo and Juliet had to send letters or rely on the nurse to send their messages. Pyramus and Thisbe on the other hand had a hole through the wall they could talk through. It was easier for Pyramus and Thisbe to communicate as you can imagine.
Lastly, the two couples spoke really distinctly. Most of the characters in Romeo and Juliet spoke using very old English terms. Pyramus and Thisbe on the other hand used more modern English. Pyramus and Thisbe was easier to comprehend and relate to because they use many more terms that we are familiar with today while Romeo and Juliet's way of speaking was very contrasting compared to how we speak today.
