Comparing The ACA And NAADAC Codes Of Counseling
Hi Raeford,

The ACA and NAADAC codes help counselor get a clear understanding of each code when dealing with a client that has different values from the counselor. Even if the counselor shares the same values as the client the counselor needs to follow the same codes and not share their personal information. I agree with you the more self-aware the counselor is the less conflict they will have when working with clients. The codes help counselors make the right decision when working with a client with different values. Thank you for sharing.

    n order to minimize professional liability and ensure treatments of clients so that they remain soundly and within the boundaries of professional standards it is up to the counselor to inform and educate his/her clients about the code of ethics (the clients may not know there boundaries) as well as determine if the client needs to be transferred to another professional. For example if the client attempts to cross the boundaries it’s the consoler responsibility to be an authority figure in these cases, as mentioned in the ACA it’s part the counselors job to determine if the client needs to see a different professional. Decisions and treatment options for the client are always made with the best interest in mind for the client.
