The goal of this approach is to perceive people as both members of a culturally diverse group and as individuals. With this approach to MCT the counsellor examines her or his own attitudes and racial beliefs, discuss racialy relivant topics, work on identity development, and work with issues surrounding oppression. The efficiency of MCT will most likely be improved when the therapist uses modalities and outlines goals coherent with the cultural values and life experiences of the client. So in otherwords, liberation of consciousness can be viewed as the basic goal of MCT theory.
Another therapy that may be usefull in the South African context is “Network therapy”. This theory integrates community and community relationships into family therapy. The goal is to help the patient build meaningful interpersonal and community relationships to further positive mental well-being. Due to the high level og gang activity and the constant friction between community members, I think this approach might benefit us as a society greatly. If community members can finally get along thire will most likely be a decreaswe in the murder rate aswell as violant behaviours towards one another.
