Comparing 'Two Kinds And Perfectly Content'

Between the two short story’s I read I found it easier to discover the theme from Two Kinds. In Two Kinds, it tells of a immigrant mother from China that desires the best out of her daughter. After all the various talents Jing Mei’s mother throws at her to learn, finally she settles on piano. In the story, there are two songs that they point out at the end of the story, these are the two types of daughter’s that Jing Mei was. The first being “Pleading Child” representing her being an obedient child, and respecting her mother, even though she had no desire to be what her mother wanted.
