Movies and theatre production are both high levels of entertainment. Since the main point is to entertain people, either through drama, comedy or action; it is important that a strong level of that entertainment is present in order to bring about more people to watch them. A variety of props, costumes, and effects add to that level. More often than not, people prefer movies because of the enhanced visual and audio effects throughout the film. Theatre production, on the other hand, has very limited effects. Since these are performed live, editing is never an option. In order to add more effects to the performance, the crews must rely on props and sound effects. “Movies are not as tough as theatre” is realistically a correct statement. In movies, mistakes are easily corrected. Directors simply yell out “cut” and order the scene to be done again. When it comes to the actors and actresses, they generally have no responsibility for the outcome of the film. Their job is to simply act their role and the rest is left to producers and editors. A theatre production can be a bit more complicated than screaming a word out to the crew, or simply acting a role. These performances are live, therefore practice is a valuable part since each role must be carried out perfectly. If a mistake is made, actors must adjust to the situation or the whole performance could fall apart. The actors drastically depend on the chemistry and flow of the performance in order to carry each role out with perfection. Each production is different in how much time and practice they apply to the creation of the film or performance.
Different impacts are placed on productions, producing a variety of reviews for each film or stage performance. Some are more affected by movies, others by theatre production. Even so, movies bring statistics showing a greater impact because they contain a much wider audience. Theatre productions are much harder to come by let alone twice as expensive. Movies are also much more accessible. Finding available movies is a simple as going to a local store and choosing between thousands of films. Theatre productions are performed once and in order to see it again, one must purchase tickets for the next act, which won’t always be at the same location.
Although both of these productions are entertaining none the less, more people obviously prefer attending movies. These films have the money to spend along with the time to put in to it. Anything from editing to adding sound effects can be added to movies, making them one of the most successful types of entertainment in today’s society. In order to truly know for sure, one must experience both of these forms of production first.

In the original movie The Sandlot it introduces the lives of the kids and what they did on a regular day basis, it wasn’t all about baseball for them that added more to the storyline. Kids could relate more to this other than in Sandlot 2 because in this movie everything was about baseball. Also the movie went a little south for me when they talked more about science in The Sandlot 2 than baseball. In The Sandlot Smalls is taught how to play baseball and shown what to do when playing baseball. A different aspect that the Sandlot brought was the boys had fun childhood memories such as tree house sleepovers, lifeguard encounters, and baseball. The Sandlot 2 did not incorporate this into the movie by playing and having fun with your best friends, it felt more serious about other things detracting from the plot.…

Continental philosophy, Pragmatic philosophy, and Analytic philosophy are all three forms of philosophies that are in response to Hegel. The differences began within English speaking countries and European speaking countries, which off-set into two separate traditions. Continental philosophy is the most different in its response to Hegelian idealism in Europe in the 19th and 20th century. The main schools of philosophical thought are existentialism, phenomenology, hermeneutics, deconstruction, and critical theory, being that existentialism and phenomenology are the two prominent schools. Some of the themes of existentialism include “Philosophy must focus on the individual in her or his confrontation with the world,” and “Senselessness, emptiness, triviality, separation, and inability to communicate pervade human existence, giving birth to anxiety, dread, self-doubt, and despair,” (Moore, B. N., & Bruder, K. , 2011, p. 154). Continental philosophers do not agree that science is the best way to describe the ways of life and emphasize on metaphilosophy. To me, Continental Philosophy is difficult to describe because it seems critical instead of expressive. Next, Pragmatic philosophy is the main tradition of philosophy in the United States. Overall, Pragmatic philosophy speaks of the lack of an absolute truth. The truth can change accordingly to any situation depending on the time and place. The three best known pragmatists are C.S Peirce, William James, and John Davey. Instrumentalism, which is Dewey’s product of pragmatism, says that human activity and human thoughts are instruments used by humans to solve practical problems. They believed that truth varied from person to person depending on where he/she wanted to progress in life. Lastly, Analytic philosophy is the main tradition of philosophy in England and later in the United States. Of course the main purpose of Analytic philosophy is analysis, which expresses complex concepts into more…

Motion pictures are possible by a director and a dream. The making of a motion picture is a tedious event, involving scripts, takes, re-takes, and an abundance of post-production editing. Many people sit and enjoy a movie without realizing the complexities and the amount of individuals involved in creating the film. The individuals create landscaping and backboards for us, the ultimate image also known as mise-en-scene. This is possible because of the phenomenal cast and crewmembers involved in the production of films; individuals such as the director, cinematographer, and art director, to the actors, sound people, and most importantly the editor, who pulls everything together to create the final cut. Additional elements such as sound, style, societal impact, genre, and film, can help in film. The movie that will review is “The Green Mile”, the scene that will be closely looked at “The Execution.”…

“In theatre, you can change things ever so slightly; it’s an organic thing. Whereas in film, you only have that chance on the day, and you have no control over it at all,” These insightful words were once spoken by actress (Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace) and Oscar winner Judi Dench, and they very clearly illustrate one of the biggest differences between theatre and film. However, a small hint of bias seems to be depicted in this point of view. The quote (and many others) seem to suggest that one form of acting is more difficult than the other. It seems the opposite is true; that when taking one of these art forms (i.e. theatre) and transforming it into the other, one would come across a wide array of differences, as well as similarities.…

The model typical associated with theater is based purely on the western canon and of performance and the spaces that they occupy. First with the Roman amphitheater that created the audience looking down on the performers and not directly engaging in the play. The tradition continued with Shakespearian Theater where the actors were still at the center of the space but the spectators were located on different levels throughout the theater. In Shakespearian Theater there was a call and response from the actors and the audience that created an interaction not common in the western canon. The present day use of the theater has reverted back to the separation of the audience members and the actors. The separation is so distinct that the only interaction…

There are many connections that can be made between the process that goes into stage combat and acting. Three main points that are consistently made when discussing the techniques that crossover between the two are using proper alignment, good breathing techniques, and being grounded. Using proper alignment gives the performer a place to start when discovering aspects of a character’s movement style, having good breath support allows the body to relax and focus its energy, and being grounded aids in balance along with an awareness of the surroundings. By utilizing all three skills together the actor becomes well rounded in his/her abilities as a performer and will be capable of taking on more challenging roles.…

Theatre in back rooms, upstairs rooms, and barns. It is always the popular theater that saves the day, and the one factor they all have in common- a roughness”( Brooks, 65). These are just a few characteristics of the rough theatre. Brook says that the rough theatre is the theatre of the people, a theatre that lacks “style”. “The rough theatre doesn’t pick and choose: if the audience is resistive, then it is obviously more important to holler at the trouble makers- or improvise a gag- than to try to preserve the unity of style in a scene” (Brooks, 66). I find this type of theatrical work quite fascinating. Theater is supposed to be live and in the moment and response from your audience is key. I think it’s great that there is a theatre out there that isn’t afraid to break the third wall, one that is not intimidated by their audience but driven by it. They want to evoke a response even if that means straying away from the structural text. Brooks talks about this style of theatre being freed of unity and style, their audience doesn’t mind that they may have flaws or inconsistencies. The audience doesn’t mind because their theater is captivating, they break rules and defy laws and this is why they succeed. “Along with seriousness, committed and probing work, there must be irresponsibility” (Brooks, 69). I think this statement is definitely something that should be considered by every artist. We as artist like to work within structures; they are important to us and important to order. But if we loosen up our structures every now and then leave a little room for irresponsibility I do believe we will add more liveliness to the work we produce. Audiences want to be captivated, they want us to succeed but we must also give them something worth watching. This down to earth and direct theatre I think is fascinating and I believe there are many people…

Can theater only exist as a live performance or can it also be successfully transferred to the digital media? Since ancient times theater has been playing a big role in people’s lives. For ages, people have been gathering to see live performances as a way for them to escape their daily life routines for a while and enter a whole new reality where there are new stories to be heard and new lessons to be learned. Although the excitement of live theatrical performances when being in the same room with live actors still remains an irreplaceable experience, in the recent years with the development of new technologies, there have been successful attempts for theatrical plays being adapted to the digital screen. A very good example of such attempts is YOMYOMF network’s “Yellow Face”, a screen adaptation of the famous play by David Henry Hwang, broadcasted on YouTube in two parts. “Yellow Face” is a chronological, semi-biographical documentary that explores what race means in the United States. Despite the fact that “Yellow Face” still remains a theatrical performance, it also includes many elements of cinematography and YouTube applications.…
