and minds of America that would last a lifetime.
The Bible says "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13). Even so, while there are thousands of heroes inscribed on the 9/11 Memorial, in comparison, the movie The World Trade Center produced by Oliver Stone, is the story only of two Port Authority Police Officers from a group of five men, Sergeant John McLoughlin and Officer Will Jimeno from the Port Authority, prayer was their salvation. The Twin Towers at the World Trade Center, our nation's symbols of freedom, stood tall and proud on a crystal-clear day on September 11, 2001. At the speed of 540 mph, the two propelling planes slammed into the two Twin Towers, the first Twin Tower and then the second Twin Tower twenty minutes later leaving the people in New York City who were on the ground, speechless, screaming, crying, frozen, and in shock. They saw with their very own eyes, the plane's direct impact into the buildings and realized that the world and reality they knew was over. They could see it, they could hear it, and they could smell it burning 1000 feet in the sky. It was hell. Unfortunately, on the other hand, in the movie The World Trade Center, film producer, Oliver Stone has neglected to include the overwhelming, emotional, and catastrophic details of real-life images of 9/11 into …show more content…
his production. His interpretation and depiction in the film allow the audience to only see a glimpse of a "shadow" of a plane on the ground as it passes by to hit the first Twin Tower. BY choosing not to use CG to show the carnage and devastation that occurred after the impact of the planes, he has left out the most horrific and destructive building collapse in American History. When one reflects on the real-life images of this instantaneous and terrifying deadly and tragic event, then one image of a Twin Tower collapsing to the ground in a movie does not do the tragedy of what happened on 9/11 justice nor does it even come close. After the collapses of the Twin Towers, Ground Zero laid in twisted ruins six stories high and buried in a layer of what looked like to be snow. It was a deep and dark mountain of rubble filled with fire, dense smoke, glass, and 2.2 million tons of torn and blazing hot metal and steel, that simmered for three months after the collapse of the buildings. Beneath it lies the remains of "Americans of every age, race, and religion" (CAN 28). On top of that mountainous pile of debris hanging from above was a torn and tattered American Flag, our symbol of freedom. Words were not needed to express the sentiment of what the brave New York City Firemen and Police Officers, Paramedics, Medical Personnel, and all the rest of New York City knew, that our flag is both an inspiration and a symbol of hope, love, freedom, God, and country. The terrorists thought by destroying the Twin Towers that they would defeat America but what they did instead, was to inspire us, because we are a country that stands united.
However, in contrast, Oliver Stone once again neglects to include another important element into his movie The World Trade Center. With two hours of dialog and one shot of a falling building, not once is there to be seen an American Flag before or after the collapse of the Twin Towers. The film is more like watching a script from "All in the Family" because more time and attention is given to the police officers personal lives and families than any details of showing the gripping horror and effects of 9/11 on all of New York City. One would have anticipated, at least, that there would have been that touching, heartfelt, and solace moment from the famous photograph of the three firefighters raising the American Flag on Ground Zero to have been included in the movie but sadly, it was not. However, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and the World Trade Center the movie does have similarities of major proportion. Both represent the worst that happened to America and the best, and the best being the men and women who willingly went into harm's way to sacrifice themselves for others. They climbed piles of unstable debris that threatened their lives step by step and did so in the name of comradeship
and love of their country. these men and women were self-sacrificing and many hundreds made the ultimate sacrifice. They did not hesitate because they are heroes. The American spirit is the very foundation of who we are as a nation. Ground Zero will forever be hallowed ground that has touched every Patriotic heart in America. The poignant memories of America's struggle on that infamous day will last a lifetime through the tears, grief, and the scars we all personally bear. Faith can move mountains and it gave America the strength to overcome evil. Nothing like this has ever happened before on American soil and nothing would ever be the same again. September 11, 2001, will be in history "a day of infamy." (Sirs Research).
