Any student can tell you that the further you get into high school the harder the reading is, there’s no denying it. Going from reading from Dr. Suess’s Green Eggs and Ham to analyzing Homer’s Odyssey can be stressful if you aren’t prepared for the harder vocabulary, complex wording, and deeply-and I mean deeply- hidden meanings.…
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” These wise words came from Theodor Seuss Geisel, whose nickname was Ted and pen name was Dr. Seuss. Born on March 2, 1904, Springfield, Massachusetts, came a talented author who focused on children’s books. Ted died on September 24, 1991. As he said, his mother, Henrietta Seuss Geisel always chanted rhythms she remembered from her youth, to sooth her children to sleep. Ted’s father, and grandfather were both brewmasters. Throughout his life, Theodor became married with Helen Geisel, who then committed suicide because she suffered from cancer and overdosed herself, as well as believing that Ted had an affair with an old friend, who he…
George Washington is a brave and good leader, just like a boy named Ralph from the book, The Lord of the Flies. Ralph and George Washington are similar in many different ways, these similarities help both Ralph and George Washington, in their lives. They are similar, because they both have an enemy that is trying to take over, their personalities are similar, and finally both have to lead people to a better situation. These things help them to be a good leader, and help the people around them, and learn new things for themselves. I have read many sources to find similarities between George Washington and Ralph.…
Were Dr. Seuss books really for children? When I was in third grade reading his books, I did not really know what was going on with the plot. I just figured it was about bullies being bullies. With this in mind, one can relate sociological concepts, such as racial groups and genders stratification, to the book “The Sneetches”.…

Dr. Seuss made silly words and creatures to educate children and make them have fun at the same time. One of Dr. Seuss's quotes is “ Why fit in if you're born to stand out”.- Theodor Seuss…
One of my favorite authors is Dr. Seuss. Not just because he’s a great book writer and illustrator, his books make kids want to learn how to read. Theodore Seuss Geisel was born on March 2nd 1904 in Springfield Massachusetts. His mom was the one who inspired him to make rhymes and books. Dr. Seuss had a good childhood even though it was during World War I.…
“The illiterate of the future will not be the person who cannot read. It will be the person who does not know how to learn,†(ThinkExist). This quote was written in 1928 by an American author of science fiction, Alvin Toffler, and that quote holds true until this day. In “The Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and Me,†by Sherman Alexie, he writes about the difficulties that he experienced as a child overcoming the intellectual limit that was put upon his culture, in this case American Indians. Another writer who experienced some of the harshest moments of American history and is always mentioned when discussing overcoming illiteracy is Fredrick Douglas who wrote “Learning to Read and Write.†Both of these authors have experienced limitations in their culture and yet strived to overcome them to better themselves and break away from the norms of society. Knowing to read…
Theodor Seuss Geisel better known as Dr.Seuss, was brought into this world 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts.…
Tavis Smiley an author and Radio/T.V. host once said there is "2 Americas." The minority glamorous America we and rest of the world can only dream of, and the poverty majority America, the glum true face of our country. Social divides in America leads to more than just racial tensions. Social inequalities are seen in almost every aspect of the American society; to the open eye. As seen in Paredes "The Hammon and the Beans" and Bambara "The Lesson", both authors illustrate through different experiences the negative attributes of poverty, class division and the vast difference in their social living.…
Over time, he had cartoon shows on television about his books. There were movies from ‘How the Grich Stole Christmas’, ‘The Cat in the Hat’ and ‘Horton Hears a Who’ (Authors and Artists for Young Adults.). In conclusion, Dr. Seuss should be put on a commemorative stamp because he influenced, entertained many people and had a huge, unique imagination. He made it easy for children to want to read and have joy while doing it.…
Sometimes the leadership became mixed up in lord of the flies and animal farm when the animals or humans were unhappy with the leader or living conditions. When one government is overthrown another one is made. Both books have different things that happen when the population is unhappy. The stories both have decent governments that are replaced by unstable and violent governments. The books both show how animals or people can be tricked to think the new leadership is better than the last one even though it may be worse.…
I had a whole collection from the Lorax to almost all the Cat in the Hat books.I absolutely adored Dr. Suess and while everyone…
My favorite book, at the moment, but one I don’t think I’ll ever forget. The Tale Of Despereaux is by far, the best book I’ve read. It’s about a little mouse named Despereaux, who is the black sheep of the family, he likes to read the books in the king's library, not eat them, like his brothers and sisters. Unfortunately, one day, he falls in love with the princess, though, that’s forbidden. Without a second thought, he tries to get the princess’s attention, and when he does, his sibling finds out. Hurriedly telling their father, he was…
I chose the book Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder and illustrated by Garth Williams. This book was first published in 1932. I chose this book at random from my grandmother’s house over Thanksgiving. I knew that she had all of the books and my sister had used my grandmother’s collection to read them all when she was younger. I just chose the first book that I saw and I really lucked out because it looked interesting. I felt that I could not go wrong with any of the books because they are widely praised for being great reads. This was the first time that I was reading a book from the collection. I had been interested in other titles when I was younger so I never became interested in these books.…
The children's book “Green Eggs and Ham by Dr.Seuss” by Theodor Geisel has the obvious moral of not judging a book by its cover. The obvious meaning to children would be to try new things. However, from an archetypal criticism point of view, the story is seen as an allegory/metaphor for “Dante's Inferno”. Seen with Sam-I-am being a symbol for the guide Dante has the through Hell, Virgil. The unnamed character representing Dante himself goes through the different circles of Hell, and the green eggs and ham (GEH) symbolizing on the quest for God and freedom of sins.…
