The Ancient Egyptians regarded the Sun as a powerful life source. Along with the flooding of the Nile, it produced their crops and insured their livelihood. During the Old Kingdom, the sun god Ra, became the dominant god in the Egyptian pantheon and great temples were erected in his honour, also during this time many other powerful gods were fused with Ra, for example Atum (the creator of the universe) gradually evolved to Ra-Atum, and in the New Kingdom, Ra and Amun were combined to create Amun-Ra. The different stories about how the world was created between numerous diverse cultures are called origin myths, which are stories that explain how things came to be and are probably the first stories human beings told. There are many similarities and differences between the Cheyenne Myth, “How the World was Made,” and the Hebrew Story, “In the Beginning,” that show how each culture views its’ God and humanity’s relationship to each of these. While both stories have animals being created before the humans, it shows the power of a greater being which is perceived differently for how they each treated the animals or humans and how they created the earth.…

It is from this resurrection that Osiris becomes the god of both the afterlife and agriculture. The reason why is the Zuni creation story never says, and no one has ever seen him in a human form, but the creation stories do say he impregnated himself to be born as the sun, so it leaves some room there for debate. “When Ah-ki' (the Earth) was young, it was said that the Earth had a family. Nee-ba-gee'-sis (the Moon) is called Grandmother, and Gee'-sis (the Sun) is called Grandfather. The Creator of this family is called Gi'-tchie Man-i-to'(Great Mystery or Creator). The Earth is said to be a woman. In this way it is understood that woman preceded man on the Earth. She is called Mother Earth because from her come all living things. Water is her life blood. It flows through her, nourishes her, and purifies her. On the surface of the Earth, all is given Four Sacred Directions--North, South, East, and West. Each of these directions contributes a vital part to the wholeness of the Earth. Each has physical powers as well as spiritual powers, as do all things. When she was young, the Earth was filled with beauty. The Creator sent his singers in the form of birds to the Earth to carry the seeds of life to all of the Four Directions. In this way life was spread across the Earth. On the Earth the Creator placed the swimming creatures of the water. He gave life to all the plant and insect world. He placed the crawling things and the four-leggeds on the land. All of these parts of life lived in harmony with each other. Gitchie Manito then took four parts of Mother Earth and blew into them using a Sacred Shell. From the union of the Four Sacred Elements and his breath, man was created. It is said the Gitchie Manito then lowered man to the Earth. Thus, man was the last form of life to be placed on Earth. From this Original Man came the A-nish-i-na'-be people. ”…

While reading A Hindu Creation Story: Rig Veda, I saw that the idea the Hindus had about there being nothing in the beginning, not even existence, until the One arose from the power of heat, was similar to Egyptian thought about the beginning of Ra, their sun god. From Purusa the world was fashioned, each of his body parts were made to represent sacrifices to create heaven, the sun, and the wind, ect. Ra was worshipped in Egyptian religion as creator and sustainer of the cosmos. He was said to have traveled in a bark along the sky by day and the underworld by night. These two similar ideas about Purusa and Ra being creators of these separate universes also help to compare them against one another, the reason being that both of these two creators could not have existed at the same creation, or they would have been the same god.…
