Alexander claims in his book that Coxey's army "stood years ahead of his time" but also "fit right into his era" (Alexander, 128). Coxey's army initiated a nationwide movement that gained support as they made their way to Washington D.C. Jacob Coxey, one of the first courageous leaders in charge of a march, believed in himself and of his fellow men to produce change and innovation to this era. The Bonus Army, like Coxey's Army, marched to Washington to speak with the government. Both of these marches occurred during two of the most devastating economic-time periods in the U.S, the Panic of 1893 and the Great Depression. Although the Bonus Army was much more violent than Coxey's Army, the type of march and reasoning behind it was the same. The government would not give any attention or consideration to the people of the United States unless they marched to Washington to be heard. Another march that Coxey's Army framed was the Occupy Movement. The Occupy Movement, created in 2011 and is in full motion today, is an economic inequality and social protest worldwide. This march is one of the only marches to come after Coxey's that is specified as being an economic inequality march.
