Competency Evaluation
The usual controversies start off dealing with the term competency for one. Ever since it was established by the landmark case Dusky v. 1960, the word has evolved and now has stricter terms as it relates to the judicial system (Westendorf 2010). We also have to look at the controversies that reliability, validity, and biases create when administering a competency evaluation.
The tests that are given to find the level of competency vary and here are a few of those. The reliability for the CST evaluation ranges from ninety two to ninety four percent and only eight percent validity. There is also the Georgia Court Competency test which yields a test and retest reliability of seventy nine percent, an internal consistency reliability of eighty

In order to establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I first begin with providing a clean and organized classroom. All toys and equipment are sanitized on a daily basis, all outlets are covered and all fixtures are mounted to the walls to prevent from tipping over. Upon entering the classroom every parent is required to sign a daily health check in which the teacher and the parent both assess the health of each child. Healthy meals and snacks are provided to each and every child, keeping in mind, the allergies that each child has. Medicines are also carried for each student that requires it on a daily basis. The classroom tables are wiped down and sanitized and the floor is swept after each meal. The children also brush their teeth after meals to help the children gain healthy brushing habits. The teacher child ratio is maintained at all times.…

There are many significant attributes of children’s lives including, physical and intellectual competence. Although children learn at a different pace than one another, once they start to age their physical and intellectual skills increase. No child is considered “smarter” because he or she might be more advance in one area than another child. Every learning skill that children are grasping on a daily basis has room for improvement.…

To promote involvement and positive relationships with families and communities I believe that an open door policy is essential to have. I would do this by talking with the parents every day at drop off and pick up time. During the morning drop off time I would be able to find out how the previous afternoon went, if I wasn't there to see it myself, and how the child slept the previous night. I could also find out whether or not the child ate breakfast. During afternoon pick up time I would be able to tell the parent how the child's day went. I would also keep daily sheets for each child that would include bathroom breaks, what and how much the child ate throughout the day, as well as any concerns or questions I might have about the child. Another way I would keep the open door policy is by sending home a weekly newsletter informing the parents of what would be going on that week in the classroom. I would encourage parents to call the center or stop by to see how things are going for the child. I know that when parents are working they, often times, wonder about the child's day. By calling or stopping by they are able to peek in on the child and get updates are how the day is going. I would also encourage parents to attend any special event that the child is apart of, such as Christmas programs. The parents would, also, be more than welcome to have lunch with the child on his or her birthday if they are available to do so. I believe that, as a teacher, it is important to be the support system for the child while he or she is at school and while the parents are away at work. If the parents are working on something, such as using manners or potty training, I would be more than willing to help them by reinforcing that task while the child is at school. It is very important for both the child and the parents to have consistency in their daily routine. I believe that by…

Competency mapping is an area which has been least explored in India. The value of competency mapping is that many employers now purposefully screen employees to hire people with specific competencies. Competency mapping is used for: recruitment and selection, identification of training needs, role renewal, as a basis for conducting assessment development centers, creating competency based performance management systems etc. Employers may need to hire someone who can be an effective team leader or who has demonstrated great active listening skills. Alternately, they may need someone who enjoys taking initiative or someone who is very good at taking direction. When individuals must seek new jobs, knowing one’s competencies can give one a competitive edge in the job market. As the foundation for a competency based performance management system is completed, it is important that everyone understands the competencies that apply to their positions. At all levels of the organization the people in critical positions must understand the hard and soft skills required of them to achieve superior performance. Every organization wants and should expect high performance from each employee. The elements of the Competency mapping will, if implemented well, enable high performance, which will define organizational and personal success. By identifying the critical positions, determining the most important competencies for those positions, providing the education, coaching and feedback to people and by holding each person accountable for their results, an organization can better meet the competitive challenges of today’s marketplace.…
