In order to establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I first begin with providing a clean and organized classroom. All toys and equipment are sanitized on a daily basis, all outlets are covered and all fixtures are mounted to the walls to prevent from tipping over. Upon entering the classroom every parent is required to sign a daily health check in which the teacher and the parent both assess the health of each child. Healthy meals and snacks are provided to each and every child, keeping in mind, the allergies that each child has. Medicines are also carried for each student that requires it on a daily basis. The classroom tables are wiped down and sanitized and the floor is swept after each meal. The children also brush their teeth after meals to help the children gain healthy brushing habits. The teacher child ratio is maintained at all times.…

It is important to foster a learning environment in which students feel safe, relaxed, secure, confident and valued (Gravells A 2012 pg25) especially for learners who may have had negative experiences in traditional classroom environments. Students often describe supportive learning environments as expanding their sense of family and enhancing their self-esteem, which, when combined with increased literacy skills, help students take more chances in pursuing their goals.…

The teachers do excellent with the greeting and departing of students, meals and snacks, and health practices. Young children show separation anxiety as they become upset when their parents leave them. So the teachers create a welcoming atmosphere that allows the children to feel comfortable, so when the parents say “goodbye,” the child is prepared for the departure and knows that their parent will back in a few hours. Also, the child can use the caregiver as a secure base, which permits them to explore the classroom environment and return to the caregiver for emotional support if need be. Areas that could be improved are diapering/toileting and safety practices. There is no schedule that has checks of the diaper changes every two hours. However, all the students except for a handful are only at the school for three hours. Regarding safety practices, there are some areas in the classroom that pose as safety hazards such as open stairwell access and mats that have foot-catching…

The practitioner has many responsibilities, but the practitioner’s main responsibility is to safe guard the child and make the environment safe for themselves and the children in the setting. By doing this the parents know their children are in a safe environment and the practitioner will safe guard them. This will build a trusting relationship between the parent and the practitioner. Also when the practitioner is dealing with the child they would have to look at all areas of the child. For example if the child has allergies they will need to have a meeting with the parent and find out what needs are, such as the child may have a certain allergy. When the parent has had the meeting with the practitioner it will show the parent that the practitioner has interests in the child and wants to meet the child’s need and take responsibility for the child. On the hand the practitioner should develop bad habits with children, for example always pay attention to one child because when the practitioner does not pay attention to the child, the child may become upset. The practitioner should let the child interact with other children and the practitioner should interact with all children.…

One way to achieve this is to create a predictable schedule with safety rules and perform routine healthy checks that provide children with all their basic needs. Good nutrition promotes growth with good healthy meals and snacks, and one should share information about nutrition with parents. This is another way to achieve safe, healthy environment for children. A competent care provider uses proper precautions, such as wearing and disposing of gloves properly, washing hands before and after toileting practices, and before preparing food. This prevents the spread of infectious disease. The provider also teaches children good hygiene practices by posting signs above sinks and toilets with pictures that models these practices. Always follow proper procedures in identifying the signs of abuse by documenting abuse evidence and markings, and reporting abuse also shows responsibility and competency. Children need and deserve to be in a safe, healthy, loving environment free from physical, emotional, sexual, and neglectful…

One of my goals in the functional area of healthy is to model the importance of proper hygiene. I feel this is an important goal for preschool children because young children do not understand that good hygiene is the best way to avoid spreading infections and diseases. One of the ways I do this is by washing my hands before helping the children open their lunches, after coming in from outside, and any other time that my hands may be dirty. I help the children to properly wash their hands by incorporating hand washing techniques into my lesson planning (I have songs that they can sing, so that they are washing their hands for at least 20 seconds). I also make sure that children are using their own bedding. I sanitize and wash bedding weekly. I disinfect toys that may have been coughed and sneezed on immediately and wash or sanitize the rest of the toys biweekly. I request that parents bring healthy foods for their children’s lunches as well as removing allergens such as peanut butter. I sit with the children and model good eating habits.…

The first element of classroom safety is intentional design. Using the positioning of your desks, displays, storage and equipment to create a warm and welcoming room for the students lets the parents as well feel that their child is being left in a safe and caring environment. When the students are comfortable with the surroundings, they feel safe and want to be involved with learning. The expectations for behavior should be made clear at the beginning of the year by reviewing these rules with students. Classroom rules must have concrete consequences. Having a regular daily schedule helps you and your kids prepare for upcoming tasks. The children will adjust to the daily routine and behaviors will be kept at a minimum because they know what is expected of them.…

➢ Supervision: A child needs to learn and explore so we need to always be mindful of Risk V Challenge. The opportunities must be there but in a way that does not endanger the child e.g. Children should be given the opportunity to use the P.E equipment but staff must keep an eye and mats must be placed on the floor. If supervision is lacking a child could have accidents. Staff must always remember that they’re role models, also a good home/school link is again important as home background may have an impact on a child’s behaviour ect. By being aware of anything that is wrong at home e.g. Neglect and can put the welfare of the child in rectifying the problem.…
