Moving to the Emerald City
It was a complete culture shock when I moved from Salt Lake City, Utah to Seattle, Washington.
I was off to college moving out on my own for the first time, moving to an entirely new city and state to play college basketball for North Seattle Community College. My Dad and I left Utah at four in the morning and we drove 850 miles to Seattle which we did in 15 hours straight in one day. We arrived at my new house in my new temporary home located in the busy University District of Seattle, there to welcome me was my new roommates ready to help me move in and help get all my things to my room.
When I got to my room I was really worried to see that I had no bed or furniture in a tiny and dirty little room in the dark dungeon of a basement. My Dad and I quickly had to go to the store to get a mattress and all we could get for the time being was a little air mattress. Thankfully my Dad was there to help me get settled in but I was still freaking out about how different life is in Seattle compared to Salt Lake.
When I dropped my Dad off at the airport I was scared knowing that in a few moments I would be officially on my on without Mom or Dad to help and take care of me for the first time. My first day on my own was a rough one, driving was definitely the worst part of it. Back in Utah we have really wide streets with several lanes and there are no one way streets and you basically park almost anywhere, anytime without having the worry of being towed. I was freaking out how narrow and skinny the streets were here and I almost went the opposite way on a one way road which gave me a heart attack almost coming in to oncoming traffic, and I got two parking tickets on my first day and my car almost got towed but thankfully one of my roommates saved the day telling the officer it was my first day so he let me go.
Needless to say my first day
