The feeling of distance running is like no other. It is in our nature as human beings, something our ancestors did for survival. Running gives us back a lost freedom, that we all once had. Competitive running is my favorite sport, because there is indeed nothing like it. Lining up at the starting line, tension can be felt in the air, as competitors mentally prepare for the race ahead. The starter yells his instructions as the runners line up for the race which is about to begin. The gun sounds, and they spring from the pack, each attempting to get ahead at the start. A quick pain can be felt in their lungs, as their bodies adjusts to the speed, subsiding seconds later. The runners settle into their race-pace, and begin to set goals, trying their best to reach and stay at the front of the pack. When each season begins, there is always new runners, whether joining because they are freshman, have just moved to the school, or other reasons. These people are quick to meet and learn about everyone, leading them through paths to new high school friendships. The Cross Country team is like no other team I have been a part of. There is no one who is left out, or does not talk to someone. Everyone gets along, and has a extremely fun time. Going through these competitions together, the team shares a strong determination to reach their goals and make it to the State Competition. In a sense, the team becomes a family, due to these shared
