Competitiveness is a great aspect promoted in many societies and among individuals. How dose competitiveness affect the individuals? It is a positive or negative quality?

As competitiveness is often be highlighted in our society, mainly at school and at work, there are contentious attitudes toward whether competitiveness is a positive or negative characteristic nowadays. As for me, I believe that moderate competition contributes to both individual and social progressiveness while excessive competitiveness brings about negative impact to them.
Competitiveness affects individuals by making them improve themselves and surpass their competitors. For instance, a child with competitive awareness often studies harder than others in order to get better academic results.
Admittedly, it is not deniable that mild competition serves as catalysis in accelerating the progress of people and society. A great numbers of advanced technologies such as communicating and manufacturing techniques are achieved and revolutionized due to continuous competition between companies and nations.
However, the demerits of fierce competitiveness could be reflected in several aspects in individuals and the society. Firstly, the fact that competitive awareness brings a lot of pressures to individuals. For example, intense competition generates unnecessary pressures resulting in unhealthy lifestyles and psychological burden. Secondly, the idea of competitiveness sometimes may mislead people to behave immorally, which is harmful to the well being of the society. This is particular true in the case that companies often implement less environmentally friendly techniques in order to cut the cost and defeat their rivals.
In conclusion, I agree that moderate competitiveness plays a positive role in individual and society in terms of improving their behaviors but negative results will be apparent if competitiveness is conducted in an intense way.

Competition is generally regarded as being positive, bringing benefits in particular to customers. The advantages of competition are based on the fact that, in order to gain market share, firms need to offer the cheapest or the best quality products to customers. This requires them to operate as efficiently as possible, in a cost effective way while at the same time improving the quality of products and services as much as possible. However, competition also has some negative. Where competition is based solely on price, product quality might be sacrificed because resources that are devoted to competing with other firms, such as the huge amounts spent on advertising and packaging, could be directed to producing cheaper or better products. Also, competition between firms means that, inevitably, some businesses will be forced out of the market, with the economic and human consequences of redundancy and unemployment. Finally, the competitive process tends to mean that successful established businesses gradually take over, for example Nestle…

Competition in most cases is a good thing. Athletes often profit the most from competition because they are forced to give their all on every play. Even a world class athlete, if he has completion will be pushed further and will have to give in to his own agenda (laziness) to remain competitive. Competition in the market place is no different; it combats most company self-interests and instead provokes producers into wealth-creating activities.1 The competitive process I feel also provides an even stronger incentive for producers to operate efficiently and heed the views of consumers.…

The competition with other people won’t be the only thing but also the competition with yourself won’t be necessary. People compete with themselves as a daily basis and try to become better every time they do it again. Without competition it would be impossible to try harder everyday and achieve new things. The people in society would have no pride in themselves, because they have no achievements to be proud of.
