CNG (Compressed natural gas) (Methane stored at high pressure) can be used in place of gasoline (petrol), Diesel fuel and propane/LPG. CNG combustion produces fewer undesirable gases than the fuels mentioned above. It is safer than other fuels in the event of a spill, because natural gas is lighter than air and disperses quickly when released. CNG may be found above oil deposits, or may be collected from landfills or wastewater treatment plants where it is known as biogas.
CNG is made by compressing natural gas (which is mainly composed of methane, CH4), to less than 1 percent of the volume it occupies at standard atmospheric pressure. It is stored and distributed in hard containers at a pressure of 200–248 bar (2,900–3,600 psi), usually in cylindrical or spherical shapes.
CNG is used in traditional gasoline/internal combustion engine automobiles that have been modified or in vehicles which were manufactured for CNG use, either alone ('dedicated'), with a segregated gasoline system to extend range (dual fuel) or in conjunction with another fuel such as diesel (bi-fuel). Natural gas vehicles are increasingly used in Iran, the Asia-Pacific region (especially Pakistan[1] and the Indian capital of Delhi), and other large cities like Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai—as well as cities such as Lucknow, Kanpur, etc. Its use is also increasing in Latin America, Europe and North America because of rising gasoline prices.[2] In response to high fuel prices and environmental concerns, CNG is starting to be used also in tuk-tuks and pickup trucks, transit and school buses, and trains.

In the world we live in, the human population is dependent upon a seemingly endless list of objects and resources. The list consists of certain necessities that have been required since the dawn of man, including food, water, shelter, but the list is always increasing. In the past couple centuries it seems as if the list has increased at an exponential rate, adding staggering degrees of technology, sources of communication, and of course energy. One of the major sources of energy is natural gas.…

    | Methane is a chemical compound with the chemical formula CH4. It is the simplest alkane, the main component of natural gas, and probably the most abundant organic compound on earth. For this experiment we had created a bio gas generator. A biogas generator is any gas fuel derived from the decay of organic matter, as the mixture of methane and carbon dioxide produced by the bacterial decomposition of sewage, manure, garbage, or plant crops. Using a slurry mix of manure and cut grass we came up with the hypothesis “The more volume of slurry, the more gas will be produced”. Our independent variable was the volume of slurry, because we controlled how much slurry to put in the bottle, and the dependent variable was the methane gas.…

Natural Gas is a good, clean source of energy for many uses. It does not pollute the atmosphere and is increasing in popularity. With fossil fuel sources depleting, natural gas is becoming more looked at as a new main energy source. There is a large quantity of natural gas held within the layers of shale underground and only recently new technology was developed that can release the gas from the shale in a process called fracking.…

The United States is home to what some estimate to be the largest known shale gas reserves in the world. Often referred to as the “bridge fuel” that, according to the oil and gas industry, will aid in the country’s energy transition from coal and oil to renewable sources like wind and solar power. Natural gas now fuels nearly 40 percent of the country’s electricity generation and the use of the gas is becoming very popular. Natural gas use has soared in recent years, but so has the controversy surrounding the environmental, public health, and social impacts of how the fuel is obtained.…

    Natural Gas Fracking

In today’s global fight for the growing demand of energy and promotion of saving energy, fracking has become very controversial. The dangers to our society and health are at the forefront in conducting safer practices. To obtain the natural gas, fracking or hydraulic fracking must be conducted. Hoffman (2015) explained, “Hydrofracking is a controversial oil and gas extraction technique developed in the late 1940s to gain access to fossil energy deposits previously inaccessible to drilling operations”. The process of fracking is defined as blasting high-pressure water, sand, and chemicals deep underground, and allowing the formations to fracture. This practice releases the natural gas out of the formations and is…
