The Nazi guards were very cruel to the captives. They enjoyed torturing, taunting, and even killing them for pleasure.
The gas chambers were used to exterminate the inmates since it was much more efficient than shooting them. The Nazis would lie to the prisoners, telling them that these gas chambers were merely showers.
