Acute Stress
1. Acute Stress: a short-term state of arousal, in response to a perceived threat or challenge that has a definite endpoint (Huffman & Dowdell, 2015, p.86).
2. I consider acute stress in my life to be the snowstorms that occurred last winter. During the storms there was the possibility of the heavy snow collapsing the roof of my home, or disrupting the electricity service. Worrying about these potential situations caused stressed. However the storms had an endpoint in sight, at which point I could clear the snow from the roof, and the threat of power failure was gone, therefore ending my stress.
3. I would consider this situation an acute stress, because during any of the storms I was in a state of arousal.
