Concert Report
Concert Report 1 On 4th December, 2010, a concert named Philharmonic Orchestra is being held in DVC Performing Arts Center. The program of this performance is remarkable and filled with uniqueness and superb quality of music and sound which make me feel wonderful and worthy to participate as their audience. The program is divided into 3 sections, each section not only consist of different pieces of orchestral music, but it also has its own unique settings of amount and type of instruments which make the whole performance even more spectacular. The first part of the performance is occupied by Dongeun Lee’s I11e dixitin Somnis, Lawrence Huang is featured to perform his violin solo. This piece includes a variety of instruments as trumpets, violins, cello, double bass, etc. Lawrence has shown his dedication of emotion and skills on doing his violin solo, which worth the applause from all the audience at the end of this section The second of the performance is overwhelmed by four outstanding artists with four types of instruments which are featured in Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante in Eb, K. 297b that night. The premiere quality sounds from Oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon are performed by the following artist in order: Suzanne Caristensen, Peter Brown, Paul schncider and Michael Garvey. Basically their performance is backed with an orchestra of two oboes, two horns, and strings. To be spotted on, the movements of this piece is rooted in E flat major, an Andante tempo is shown at a walking pace (76–108 bpm). The overall performance is well balanced, with the second bassoon constantly establishing a firm bass and the soloists play with the style to be well blended in the whole performance and certainly with admirable skill as well. The Third section of the performance is way more entertaining than the other two, which is not only performed in a variety of keys, but also consist of a world

Once the violin enters the music feels so heavy, as if all of us in the audience almost have to hold our breaths from the sadness and tragedy that is being displayed. As the movement goes on the notes get higher, but are not relieved from any seriousness. This is an amazing example of how music can display tone without a single word or explanation. Grace Mei-En Ho, “an active soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States and Asia”, executes excellent technique during the extremely low parts of this movement. This movement was my favorite because it invoked an intense feeling that I could easily see wasn’t only felt by…

The in class concert with three performances that I attended on 15th of February was an very interesting experience for me as I have not been to a classical music concerts that often. The first piece, Oxycotton, was performed by Tim Sanchez using the marimba. The second one, Acht Stucke, was performed by Samantha Post using the flute. Nicholas Gledhill using the horn performed the third piece, Blues and Variations for Monk. The last piece, Misty, was performed by CSU Graduate Brass Quintet. In this paper, I am going to write about the performances that I heard and about the different music elements that they used in each performance.…

I attended The Works of Thomas Root on Tuesday, March 24th. It featured the Weber State University wind ensemble and symphonic band as well as the WSU Band Alumni. There were many pieces conducted and created by Thomas Root. Most pieces were still unpublished but they were wonderful nonetheless. He also had pieces that were dedicated to people that he had come to meet throughout his life, and a piece was dedicated to his own mother.…

I attended concert Welcome Christmas 2014 performed by the Vocal Essence and The Ensemble singers on Friday December 5th from 7.30 to 9: 30 pm at the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Apple Valley. The concert was conducted by Phillip Brunelle, narrated by Katherrine Fennard and fiddled by Sara Pajounen. Recording devices and cameras were prohibited it could have been a nice opportunity to record and listen again. I arrived just on time and the singers all dressed in black suites for men and black dresses for women processed silently as they took their spots on the stage according to the parts they were practicing for while the audience cheered for them as they took their spots on stage. As the choristers arrived the hall the musical prelude was going on with different instruments such as the flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, horn, trumpet, fiddle, violin, viola, cello, bass and percussion but the musicians stopped playing and cheered them as well. Everyone cheered them and then sat down and the deal began.…

This is an amazing energetic piece by the presented of these instruments: piano, cowbell, timpani, maracas, voices (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass). The tempo throughout the piece are rallentando and fast tempos. The piece sounded strong, powerful, harmonizing in between the instrument, but also chilling at the sacred movement where it got slow and a bit softer. Overall, the dynamics where mezzo forte, forte, tenuto, crescendo, and sforzando. The word that have been repeated the most throughout the piece was “silliza” with a loud (forte) by the voices singing. I have enjoyed this piece and love it because it sounds really energetic, strong, happy, fun, and exciting. In my opinion, this is an good ending song where all the choirs get to sing together before the concert…

The first half of the program included two pieces, Piano Quartet in E-flat major, K. 493 composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Die Gebüsche composed by Franz Schubert. The most impressive piece for me was the first one. It was a chamber music from classical period. This concerto-like quartet had three movements, which gave us an echoing through the performance. There was a material between piano and strings that changes along the piece. The first movement was a sonata-form Allegro. A bright and genial opening establishes the major tone of the entire piece. This sonata-allegro also had a lot of narrow leaps which allows me feel lively. The second movement Larghetto was like a rapt dialogue between piano and strings. It started with solo piano. Then, it has a downcast and made me fell leisure. The third movement Allegretto was the finale of the piece, which has a moderately paced rondo. The characteristics of classical music include symmetrical, balanced phrases melody, dance rhythms, diatonic, tonic-dominant harmony, multimovement sonata-allegro form and homophonic. The violin tonic-dominant and the form of homophonic allowed me ensure that the piece is composed in Classical ear, but not from Baroque…

On October 19, 2013 I sought out to listen to some classical music for my review for class. It was a pleasure to have found the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra at the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oviedo, FL, a part of St. Luke’s concert series of 2013-14 that has been held in the last nineteen years here in Oviedo, FL. This free event that’s held each year at St. Luke church holds about three hundred people in there sanctuary, everything in the décor speak to your imagination Lutheran church. It was very nice it reminded me of a small concert hall. The orchestra fill the whole area were the choir usually sit. Christopher Wilkins, he conductor along within a full orchestra and Rimma Bergeron–Langlois the violinist, who all played four great suites from the genius of Georges Bizet, the piece from L’Arlesienne, Carmen suite, and Carmen fantasies, and Symphony in C’ that took you back in time. This classical music from the romantic era was breath taking.…

The first piece to be examined is “Don Giovanni”, which was written by Mozart during the Classical era of classical music. It is apparent that it was written during this period by the use of both stringed and wind instruments. The vocals are harmonic, and go from being sung softly to very strong and intense, which also indicate that the piece was written during the Classical era. In this piece the music definitely plays just as much of a role in the storytelling, as the vocals do. The mood of both the vocals and the instruments indicate that the story is very personal and heart-felt.…

The third work was mostly a dance, with the piano playing. The piece had crescendo in the beginning, a harsh sound, and an unmetered rhythm. The harmony was polyphonic. The piano player and trumpet player begin playing at the end. The fourth work was called "Three More Foxes". This piece was highly syncopated, with a fast tempo and very easy to hear. The harmony was polyphonic, and it had accents at different levels. The piece is not an easy tune to hum to, it will suddenly get louder.…
