Do you want your children to learn about God at school? Should they be learning those things at school? In Quebec, there are three choices for religious classes: C.R.I. ([Roman] Catholic Religious Instruction), M.R.E. (having to do mainly with Protestant instruction) and Morals which discusses moral issues outside common religious matters such as God, Jesus and the Bible. Schools around the world are debating whether or not to contuinue this program.. Presently they are teaching however. Well the truth is, religion should not be taught in schools and there are many reasons for this.
There are better places to get religious instruction. There are churches and synagogues and temples to learn about it. In fact, it is the opinion of many that religion is something that should be a found on a personal level, everyone for themselves. This is impossible to do if the kids are being forced to believe something that they don't agree with at school. Others strongly believe the religion has to be taught in the home by the parents because it is their inherited responsibility. This ideas are logical. In fact, it is a Biblical principal. Deuteronomy 6:6,7 commands parents: "These words that I am commanding you today must prove to be on your heart; and you must inculcate them in your son and speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road and when you lie down and when you get up." Here, God was telling parents to teach their children his "words" at all times; in the house; on the road, when they go to sleep and when they wake up.
There are more important things to learn at school. Many subjects need more time to emphasise their value. Math, for example, "is the most difficult course for students because of the emphasis on working rapidly instead of taking the time to really understand it" commented a high-school teacher. Physical Education is another example. Hal Johnson, a television fitness instructor remarked: "Everyone, specially students in school, need at least 30 minutes of physical activity (such as in gym class) every day." Every day. Such activity helps students in every other subject because it has been proven to help relax, concentrate and control stress. The problem is that schools are far from meeting these needs because of the lack of time. Removing classes such as Religion would make more time for these essential courses.
Religion cannot be taught in depth with enough integrity in school. Are two periods lasting 50 minutes each twice per week enough time to devote to learning about God? Absolutely not! Even it it were, the sad truth is that many students just don't care about religion, and trying to force an idea, particularly a religious idea, onto a person who is in the rebellious stage in life, is useless, a waste of time. It is this spirit of indifference that degrades Religion. One student responded when asked about religion class: "What about it? It's just another class. I don't mind it though, because we don't do any work." Now, there will always be those who actually will want to learn about religion in school. For their sake, religion class should be one of the optional courses. This arrangement would accommodate both groups.
It is plain to see that Religion should not be taught at school because there are better places to learn about God, there are more inmportant things to do in school and because it cannot be taught in depth with enough integrity. To think otherwise, is to be one-sided.

Teachers should not teach their students about religion, politics, and ethics because it could corrupt students’ minds. If a student with a different religion and background was taught a whole new religion, he or she may have a change in personality and start having beliefs in that taught religion. This could cause conflicts between the student and his or her parents who are very strict towards their religion. In the story of Inherit the Wind, the whole town of Hillsboro is full of corrupted minds because everyone in that town believes in the same stuff. They believe that the bible is always right, “I believe it is not boastful to say that I have studied the bible as much as any layman. And I have tried to live according to its precepts.”-Brady-page 176-Plays on a Human Theme. Not everyone is religious and it can cause others to be offended.…

Since taking the Bible and prayer out of Schools, there have been five negative developments in the nation’s public schools: Academic achievement has plummeted, including SAT scores, increased rate of out-of-wedlock births, an increase in illegal drug use, increase in juvenile crime and deterioration of school behavior. Without someone teaching our youth in schools about God, the Bible and Jesus, where are the youth of America going to learn?…

My recent interest in why religion in any form in banned from publics school has led me to find a few articles in which you are defending people who have been wrongfully forces to listen to some kind of sermon, like in the case of Matthew LaClair. Robert Boston makes many valid points in that article. Public school is not a place where religion of any kind should be forced down the students’ throat. On the other hand a person religious belief should not have to be turned off once they hit the school’s doors either. These articles have shed some new light on this question for me.…

The world we live in, is one of selfishness, anger, and ignorance. Ignorance; this seems to have been the largest problem of all. According to Stephen Prothero (2010), “the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life released the first nationwide survey of American religious knowledge.” As he stated the country failed, having averaged 50% of the questions correct on the survey, however; “non-believers” (atheists and agnostics) were ahead having averaged 66% correct on the same (Prothero). The Fact of the matter is, that America as a whole is ignorant and bias. Students should be required to learn about world religions; once they reach a certain age however.…

“…when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret” (Bible, Matt. 6:5-6). School prayers add conflict to education in many ways. As a result of the vast amount of religions in the United States, there are conflicts caused my disagreements of religion. “Japan, where no one prays at school, had the lowest crime rate of any developed nation” (Gaylor, 683). Religion should only be taught in private schools or organizations. The First Amendment was made for Freedom of religion, press, and expression, meaning that everyone has a right to pray, but not for public schools to convert the students into believe a certain religion. I strongly agree on Gaylor’s viewpoints of school prayers because I was felt in the same situation in the past. Public schools should stay open to different…

Science verses Religion has been an ongoing debate all over the world for centuries. Depending on who one talks to about these topic will depend on the passion and beliefs one has. As we saw in the movie Angels and Demons all the major characters such as Robert Langdon, Camerlengo McKenna and the former pope had their own strong feelings and beliefs. Certain questions have been raised about these two topics that I will be elaborating on later in this essay such as, Is there room in the world for both, Can one render the other obsolete, and would I rather live in a world without science or religion? I find all these questions very interesting and interaging, just like the movie Angels and Demons.…

Over seventy-six percent of the adolescents in America believe in a personal God (Regnerus). Despite this fact, the stigma surrounding the debate of separating school from religion mostly brings religious talk in education to a stand-still. Religion has presented itself in society for as long as history has recorded life in societies, and many individuals still practice their faith. In today’s society, however, teachers and educators rarely mention religion outside of Social Studies classes in public school systems. Yet, science has proven that allowing religion in lives affects and improves the quality of life. Public schools should allow religion because the presence increases test scores, results in better behavior, and leads to an overall happier life.…

Freedom of religion? Are we really free to be apart of whatever religion we choose to believe in? If we are really free to believe in whatever religion we choose then why aren't we able to pray in schools? Everyone in the United States has amendments that they have to obey. The first amendment to the constitution gives us the freedom of religion, speech, press, and the right to peacefully assemble. Even though we have the freedom to do these things we are not able to use them as freely as we should. In schools we cannot say pray as a class. If you believe in a religion you should strongly believe in it where as you can hear someone else praying and be able to ignore it if it goes against your beliefs.…

Everybody likes to go their own way, to choose their own time and manner of devotion. Canadians have many beliefs and values that vary indifferently from person to person. We try to fit the needs and values of many in the Canadian law system, known as multi-cultural. We have two main languages and many people of all different ethnicities. With different ethnicities, come different religions which can cause great controversy as differences meet. There are so many religions in Canada, most of the Christian faith, but many large religions can also include Judaism and Islam. Many adults would like to raise their children as the faith that they, themselves belong to. Parents want to educate their children in a religious form as well. Canada does have Catholic, Christian schools that can be attended by anyone that shares religious belief. The government should not put public funding into religious schools. Public schools should have the same basic morals as any religious school has. Having some religious schools causes controversy for other Christians, Jewish, Islamic faiths that would like to attend religious schools. There are just too many religions to include a school for every religion in Canada. Schools need to include everyone in order to teach children about discrimination and racism. Funding religious schools costs on average half a billion dollars per year thus being too costly. Education should remain separate from religion. Religion can be taught at home and in church.…
