There have been several studies conducted on the dangers of concussion in youth football. They all seem to mention the same issue. The effects that these concussions have on the thinking, behavior and attitudes of the youth. Concussions cause the dangerous disease CTE that has already claimed the lives of many athletes in the NFL and in other sports. We are doing research on CTE but a lot more needs to be done. If the NFL is going to be safer they need to relinquish all of their information and research on player brain injuries. Some good things are being done to rule changes to make the game safer, but it is still not enough. There is a fine line however between changing rules and changing the game, which the NFL will have to navigate carefully. One of the better answers to these brain injuries is to improve the helmet protecting the head. Many developers have made ingenious new ideas to combat the concussion epidemic in football. It is up to the NFL to adopt the new innovations to the football helmet to drastically improve player safety. A person’s brain is the most important part of the body. It just makes sense to want to protect it as much as possible. As the public becomes more aware of the dangers football has on a player’s brain people may reconsider playing football. If the NFL is going to have a future, they must make their game safer. If people see less players effected by concussions on TV public perception of football will improve. We all know the classic NFL(National Football League). It is certainly fun to watch, but how to the players feel when they play? Football concussions are a big deal when it comes to mental and physical stability. NFL players may be able to sustain through concussions and pain (even though it is a bad thing to ignore), but teenagers, on the other hand, shouldn’t try to fight the pain. High schools should not be able to run football teams knowing the dangers of the sport. Teenagers are more susceptible to get life-threatening brain damage from a concussion. Not only can football cause concussions, it can cause pain or permanent damage in other places of the human body.…

In a country that thrives on competition it is no wonder Americans have embraced football as their favorite sport. Every weekend during football season, millions line up, tune in, or change the channel to watch their favorite teams do battle for 60 minutes. It is a rough physical game and at the collegiate and professional levels, played by some of the worlds best athletes. There are many dangers involved when participating in such a sport. Rarely will a player go through a game without being hurt in some capacity. This is part of the game and everyone involved knows it. Because of this, players often have to be the judge of whether they are “Injured”, or “hurt.” The difference being that someone who is just hurt can still perform physically and should be able to return to the game. However if a player is injured, this means that they have been hurt to the point where they are not physically able to play, or to the point that further play could escalate the injury into something much more serious. For most injuries this distinction is easy to make, for instance a sprained ankle can either be ran on or it cant, depending on the extent of the sprain. If a player suffers a concussion though, it can be much more difficult for that player to consider himself injured.…

A traumatic brain injury (TBI) also known as a concussion is a serious health problem to athletes, especially to football players. The brain controls the body and gives a person personality and defines every aspect of his or her life. A brain injury can disrupt a person’s life in an instance and like broken bones or bruises; TBI can limit or prevent normal body functions. A brain injury, unlike common injuries can damage mental abilities to include memory and speech. There are only two classifications in TBI; mild and severe. Mild TBI is classified as loss of consciousness and or confusion and disorientation for less than thirty minutes. Severe TBI is thirty or more minutes and with memory loss. A person classified with severe TBI has limited functions of legs and arms, abnormal speech and emotional problems. When a person experiences a brain injury they often do not realize that one has occurred. TBI often leads to Alzheimer or Parkinson’s or Lou Gehrig’s diseases, and other forms of dementia and brain tumors. No two brains are alike and no two brains injuries are the same makes treatment and recovery a complex and challenging task. In football players, TBI is a serious concern because players do not know or don’t let somebody know about the injury and continually play in fear of losing a spot on the team roster. No player wants to let down the team. Football players only want the respect of other players and get the win at the end of the day. The effects of the injury compounds and clouds their judgment and growth until it is too late to correct problems.…
