Rebecca Taylor LaBrode discusses in her article, “Etiology of the Psychopathic Serial Killer: An Analysis of Antisocial Personality Disorder, Psychopathy, and Serial Killer Personality and Crime Scene Characteristic," LaBrode discusses the treatment available to individuals with psychological disorders, and she connects personality disorders that come from children with past traumatic events, but she also states that the disorder can be treated from an early stage in life. Labrode specifically says,…
Name Instructor Class Submission Date Holden Caulfield: Sociopath or Everyman? The minds of assassins generally teem with oddities. For example, Leon Czolgosz, the assassin of President William McKinley, was so devoted to his anarchist principles that he refused to talk to anyone whom he perceived to be an authority figure in the aftermath of the assassination. This included his court-appointed attorneys and the judge at his trial, which led to his attorneys attempting to secure a finding of insanity but ended up exasperating the jury, which only required an hour of deliberations to find him guilty of first-degree murder and sentence him to the electric chair.…

At the beginning of his essay, Nordau states strongly that people who make controversial and offensive art should be treated the same way as drunks, criminals, and the mentally ill are treated. He declares that "the artist who complacently represents what is reprehensible, vicious, criminal, or approves of it, perhaps glorifies it, differs not in kind, but only in degree, from the criminal who actually commits it".…
While listening to episode eleven of the Serial podcast the rumors about Adnan were not connected to the crime. One specific rumor I have trouble with is the one about him stealing from the mosque. Adnan tells Sarah he stole from the mosque sometimes but not thousands of dollars like the person that started the rumor said. However, how does this relate to the crime, it is just a blow at Adnan’s character. If you say that because he stole money that makes him a murder, then every robber will commit a murder at some point and time.…

Mikey Espinosa is an artist who made her dream come to life. One of her pictures is an abstract portrait drawing that originated from a dream that she conjured up. It shows a young woman staring at herself in a mirror, her body animatronic, with an electrical face exposed. This is a successful piece of art because it gets people to let their minds wander and think about what the possible meanings are behind the art. An effective piece of art also catches and keeps audience’s attention, which this one definitely does. And it also lets the audience feel something to the piece.…
When one typically thinks about ‘art’, one usually associates iconic pieces such as Van Gogh’s The Starry Night, Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa or even Michelangelo’s David to name a few. As humans evolved, so did their art pieces and the interpretations people had over whether or not the ‘artwork’ is truly a work of art. In the past, being an artist was highly respected, such as in the times of the Renaissance where they were alongside philosophers and others of the sort, an example being Leonardo Da Vinci. Nowadays, the arts are often looked at with disdain due to people believing they are simple and lack rigor compared to other fields such as the medical field. One form of art that experiences this severely is street art which is the focus of Banksy’s documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop. Banksy has two main points in the film, which is to give the audience a brief history of street art along with displaying the growth of an artist, that being Mr. Brainwash or Thierry Guetta, a main protagonist in the film.…
Sociopaths come in all shapes and sizes. Most people have come in contact with at least one at some point in their life. Estimates say one in every 25 people is a sociopath. The majority of people probably think of a sociopath as a psychotic criminal. This is not the case. Only 20 percent of male and female prison inmates are sociopaths. The majority of these people live normal lives and function well in society.…
Psychopathy is a personality disorder, mainly characterized by a lack of remorse or empathy, and is highly associated with antisocial behavior alongside other symptoms (Pozzulo, 301). Research shows that psychopathy can develop during childhood and adolescence (Pozzulo, 314). Psychologists are able to present to court the most probable criminal behavior of an young offender, as well as how specific models of psychopathy should be addressed, and how the offender should be punished including specific aspect of the sentence. However, psychologists’ expert testimonies labeling an offender as psychopath can lead to biased jurors’ sentences. Moreover, psychology is far from a perfect science and therefore contains many contradictions on psychopathy…
A widely acclaimed author named Edgar Allan Poe is known for his bizarre stories on murderers, madmen and mysterious women. In his short story, “The Tell Tale Heart”, the narrator leads us through his thoughts on himself and the actions he took on the old man. The narrator cunningly devised a plan to kill an old man because of his vulture-looking eye. For him, the eye was very disturbing and he decided to forever get rid of it. He doesn’t even find himself mad for doing so. Isn’t it funny how the insane never admit to them being crazy? “The Tell Tale Heart” shows us a fine example of how insane people view themselves and what we think of them as. Thus, this essay will elaborate on the differences between the narrator’s perception of himself and the reader’s perception of him.…
Being anti- social does not literally mean that one isolates oneself from the society nor dislikes to be around people and prefer to be alone. According to Thomas (2013), sociopaths are often confident and around people. In line with the popular correlation of making eye contact with telling the truth, sociopaths portray a noticeable way in making this gesture— characterizing them as good liars; being able to manipulate or outsmart others. Sociopaths are also known for being spontaneous and have a need for stimulation plays or challenges.…
Psychology forms the basis of many directions in life and art or lyricism of art in any form and especially through sculpture and painting is also based on psychological theories and understanding. The association between psychology and art is almost inevitable. Art cannot exist without psychology and the opposite. The artist soul fills a blank canvas with emotions and expresses him or her through it and search deeper psychological necessities. Yet the psychology of art has not found extensive recognition and only the last few years earned some popularity in western universities.…

The narrator himself, who is the main character, tells us the story through his own flashbacks from his past. By the flashbacks we also get an insight of the reasons behind the cause of the narrator’s emotional trauma. Two different errors of judgements is the cause behind the trauma. Our narrator made these errors 10 years ago back in Africa, when he was a volunteer doctor. After his ten years of services in Africa he moved back to Britain, but not as a doctor – he changed his work to psychiatry. He did not leave his traumatic experience in Africa and cannot forgive himself. Before his misjudgements he had a passion for drawing, but now he is afraid of the places his mind will be when he draws. He also suffers from insomnia and anxiety “Even now, when a passing lights up my wall I jerk awake with hot rivulets of anxiety running through my limps” (ll. 74-75) all this is the consequences Africa has left him – but he has not always been like this.…
