professor. Although sociopaths are responsible for many serious crimes, majority of sociopaths live a normal life and do the everyday basic chores.
A sociopath sees the environment as a game and would do anything to win. Thomas always keeps an eye out monitoring her social environment to gain knowledge about other people’s weaknesses and possibilities to win. As she doesn’t have the direct understanding of social reactions she must correctly research human behavior so that she can adapt successfully and reach her goals.
Thomas tells us that she is the kind of person anyone would like. She has the kind of smile that is common among television show characters and rare in real life, perfect in its sparkly teeth dimensions and ability to express pleasant invitation. She is the sort of date you would love to take to your ex's wedding—fun, exciting, the perfect office escort. And just the right amount of successful so that your parents would be thrilled if you brought her home. With her charm, ambitious self-promoter, and cunning lies she can have you do whatever she wanted. Her perceptive and manipulative character is able to make people do what or behave as she wished.
You would expect a sociopath to be very dangerous and you are very right to think that.
During her childhood, she never liked being touched and the only physical contact she desired was violence. Thomas shared in the article about the time she was beating a girl because of her annoying laugh. At the time she didn't realize she was doing something bad or if it was hurting the other girl. So now you can see that even something small can trigger the violence in a sociopath and only a sociopath would think it's okay to be violent. She even had a dream of killing her own father with her bare hands and felt thrilled about the violence of it “ smashing a door into his head repeatedly, smirking as he fell motionless to the floor”. As you can see thomas has no emotions nor remorse. Only a sociopath would enjoy the suffering of
others.
Thomas shares her childhood experience and tells us that she has never formed a connection with anyone and only saw them as moving objects. She would lie and steal all the time and mostly she would manipulate kids into giving her things. She didn't see people as humans, but rather saw them as robots that turn off when she wasn't interacting with them. This is extremely different to how a normal person would see things. She also mentioned that she almost drowned when she was eight and after being rescued her first reaction was laughter. In a situation like that most people would go into shock or be afraid that they almost died, but even death did not allow Thomas to develop fear.
She was an excellent student with high marks in school. She could get away with almost anything that other students weren't able to and pass an exam with a high grade with barely any studying.Despite being unprepared by many standards, Thomas was able to maintain calm and focus enough to maximize the knowledge that she did have and passed while those who were attempting to recall everything they had memorized failed. The thing that makes Thomas an amazing law attorney is that she isn't feared and her sociopathic traits play a big roll in that. She keeps cool under pressure, feels no guilt or compunction, which is very useful for a lawyer.
Thomas shared another experience when she liked to fantasize that she has ruined people or seduce someone to the point that they are only hers and of course as a sociopath that is exactly what she did. She met a girl named Lucy who was very much like her, and instantly Thomas decided she wants to ruin her. As a sociopath, she gathered all the information she could about Lucy, so that she has power over her. She manipulated others just to mess with Lucy and used information against her. Thomas found joy from breaking Lucy's heart as she does cunningly and manipulating people. Clearly she is a cruel, dark and twisted person to be tempted to hurt other people.
After all we are known through our actions and Thomas states that it's not what her ruthless thoughts and evil motivations are that matters, we all are sinners and she has never felt as if she was outside the standards. Even though she is a sociopath, she convinces us that she's not violent as those who are uninhibited and dangerous that even she stays clear of. She expresses that if she had been abused while growing up she might have not only think about taking one's life but actually take it. But the thought of her loved ones, and the goals she needs to achieve is what allowed her to function and live a somewhat normal life.
Despite being a sociopath, readers can infer that Thomas is truly a wholeheartedly caring person, who is generous to others. She bought a house for her close friend. She also gave her brother 10,0000 dollars. She’s even viewed as a helpful professor. She has a loving heart and with that loving heart she creates fondness for her family and friends.
