When Razieh initially begins working for the Lavasani family, the audience watches a very intimate scene when her daughter, Somayeh places her ear on her mother’s belly to hear what is inside. While Nader and his family were not inclined to see this, the audience immediately knows that Razieh is a pregnant woman, who will now be completing a very strenuous task. After working for Nader for a while, Razieh became extremely comfortable and left Nader’s father at home tied to a bed and left him for such a long time that he almost died. At the time the incident occurred, the audience was oblivious to where Razieh had been as well as Nader’s knowledge of her pregnancy. For example, when Razieh originally filed the complaint against Nader, Nader immediately insists that he can not be charged with murder because he did not know Razieh was pregnant and he acted out of rage when he found his father nearly dead. For a while the audience is convinced that Nader should not be charged of murder, despite him having been rather harsh with a woman. Later in the movie, Nader admits to his daughter, Termeh, that he did know about the pregnancy, however, he completely forgot about it when he thought that Razieh had stolen from him.
