The Feather of Maat, known as the Feather of Truth is shown in this exhibit, and is now housed at the Smithsonian Museum. The feather is a portion of inlay art, made of glass, which now appears green in color. This artifact is believed to be from the Ptolemaic Dynasty, 305-30 BCE, in Egypt. It is a tiny artifact, measuring only 1 and 1/4 inches, but it has a big legacy. This artifact was most likely used in part of a greater art piece to depict a story with the Goddess Maat.…
The Holocaust was a traumatizing and depressing time period in history due to the Nazis in the leadership of their dictator Adolf Hitler. The Nazis were a Political Party during World War ΙΙ from 1941 through 1945. Many Jews during this time were discriminated, murdered, and humiliated in front of many other Jews and Germans. “Six million Jews died in a merciless way at the hands of the Nazis” (Sherbok 1). The Holocaust is an unforgettable period in history that left a scar on many Jews including Vladek. Vladek was a Jew and a survivor of the Holocaust that experienced and witnessed several tragedies during this time. The war was over when his son Art Spiegelman is willing to write a book about the Holocaust. He asked his father Vladek if he could help him write his book by telling him his story and experiences during this time, Vladek agrees. Due to the Holocaust and unforgettable experiences Vladek went through, his life was never the same, he changed a lot in the manner of being more careful with money and resourceful with the things he had. Vladek also became very strict with his son Art Spiegelman and had a very strong character this is reasonable because as a young man he went through a crisis by going to the war at a young age, lost his wife and first son. The Holocaust definitely changed his style of living and his personality that led to a lot of consequences.…
Maunica responded well to the intervention. Maunica appeared to be in good physical health Maunica continues to make progress towards her goals. Maunica stated, the person would be at the explosions phase in which they would react violently by fighting, throwing things and being aggressive. Maunica stated that she sometimes reach the explosion stage when she has disagreement with her mother or sibling. Maunica stated that she never hit her mom but had exploded with aggressive words and throw things and brake things in the house. Maunica stated, the person would be in the post explosion, phase, where they are now having regrets and looking at the consequence of their actions. Maunica stated the consequences can range for being sent to jail,…
In the novel, Paul comes across a tattoo situated upon Keller’s forearm, “tattooed upon his forearm, six faded, blue digits” which symbolised Keller’s involvement within the concentration camps and the Holocaust. It is through the use of descriptive words such as ‘faded’, which creates the meaning that it was faded because it was something of Keller’s past he wanted to forget about but will always remain with him, both internally and externally, that the composer has created a distinctively visual image of Keller’s tattoo indicating the traumas of his past resulting from the war, which conveys the idea of the impact of war. The concept of the impact of war is similarly illustrated in Kseniya Simonova’s sand art performance as during the act (1:45-2:00) a happy couple is suddenly interrupted by the initiation of the war causing the woman to weep in fear and sadness. This scene provides a distinctively visual image of a traumatised woman which fosters the composer’s idea of the traumatising impacts of the war.…
Thesis: Despite writing about such a heavy topic in such a deceptively playful medium, Maus was very effective in telling Vladek’s holocaust story because it shows rather than tells the holocaust from Vladek’s and Artie’s perspective while capturing both of their emotions, the drawings aide Artie in showing the metaphor of the power system, and makes reading Maus much more understandable.…
The outcome of the conflict was to have customer call customer service to solve his issue. Although because of this conflict the tenant was not happy because he lost many customers during the time of conflict.…
This book describes the life of his father during his time in the camps, narrated by his father, but also includes scenes of Art himself commenting on the story as his father tells it to him. For example, when his father is retelling a dream he had about a voice telling him the he will be freed, “… on the day of parshas trauma,” Art interrupts him to ask what parshas trauma means (Spiegelman 57). Although many see this merely as an innovative literary tool, I believe that this shows that Art, a member of the second generation of survivors, wanted others to know about the Holocaust as well, which gives not just his father by also himself a lasting connection to the…
It was a very interesting read of both the stories I have chosen. In this essay I have chosen to compare Art Spiegelman’s From Maus and Trifles by Susan Glaspell because even when they have many things differently, I have found some things in common. Their way of writing is different, they way they tell their story is different but their passion into the story and the concept of the stories I have found them to have something in common.…
In my book the main conflict with our main character Malu must deal with having to leave her home to move to a different place. she had no say in it so she was upset about it. but the main conflict is how she has to deal with the new school, she knows no one and is alone. she also has to adjust two completely new surroundings she has no idea where she is or where anything is.On the first day of school she gets in trouble for trying to express herself and she gets bullied because of her appearance.…
In Maus, a very strong theme used is honouring the dead. They honor the dead a lot throughout the book, here is one example that stood out to me. “ And I saw them, they hanged there for one full week… When I think now of them, it still makes me cry.” This quote shows that after so many years the death of these innocent jews, still has an impact on his life. I say this as, even after so many years have past, he still takes time out of his day to remember them, keep his memories of the holocaust alive and still feels remorse for their deaths. It shows that over so many years, he still feels bad for all of the innocent jews that were hanged. I find this quote is amazing for showing how much Vladek cares about every single life lost. I think this…
In the novel, the Scarlet Letter, there are four main characters, Hester Prynne, Pearl Prynne, Arthur Dimmesdale, and Roger Prynne Chillingworth. The story goes; Hester Prynne committed the sin of adultery with the minister of their Puritan Community, Arthur Dimmesdale, the community then condemning her to wear the scarlet letter “A” for the rest of her natural life. Pearl Prynne being the product of the two sinners. In the moment, when Hester is completing the first part of her punishment, her long lost husband, Roger Prynne Chillingworth, arrives. Not wanting his arrival acknowledge Roger replaces his maiden name for Chillingworth. This situation creates a whole plot of conflicts both external and internal in all of the four main characters. All main characters in the novel interact to create these conflicts, and the community is as well involved in these conflicts.…
In the graphic novel Maus, by Art Spiegelman, it can be argued that Vladek’s personality could be a result of his childhood and of his grueling experience of living through the Holocaust. Throughout the novel we often see Art Spiegelman pondering the question of why his father acts the way he does. When we go through situations in life in which we must see things that are disturbing, we tend to change our perspective on the world. This relates back to Vladeks character and the way he changed throughout the novel. Vladek's experiences with the Holocaust psychologically scarred him forever, these experiences have made him non-trusting, cheap, and selfish.…
Conflict presents itself in various forms; it can occur in different places, can be intentional or unexpected and affect people in diverse ways. To survive people then need to develop coping mechanisms to overcome or at least begin their journey of recovery. If they cannot do this, then they will not be able to move on. Conflict is a subject that everyone in the world faces on a day to day basis, but at different levels and emotions. Conflict can be exceptionally heart wrenching, by tearing people and families apart. But these wounds motivate many inspiring people who then make a difference.…
Hi, I am Alex. When we live in the society, we are dealing conflict with strangers, parents, friends, and relatives every day. It might be as tiny as complaint about not washing clothes, or as huge as argument of selecting future career, but the results will affect the relationship between you and the people who you care. It is important to learn about the process of conflict, so we can clearly see the cause, and avoid it. In page 175 of our textbook, Communication in a civil society, it introduces a theory called phase theory and it relates to our life experience deeply.…
