Connecting with People Training in Suicide and Self Harm Mitigation
Introduction to Connecting with People
Connecting with People is evidence-based training in suicide and self harm mitigation and emotional resilience. Use of tailored case scenarios for different clinical specialties increases the relevance and impact of the training. It aims to increase empathy, reduce stigma and enhance participants’ ability to compassionately respond to someone who has suicidal thoughts or following self harm. This programme aims to support the development of a common language, promoting a more integrated response across statutory services, third sector providers and communities.
The training can be delivered on site, reducing impact on staff time and travel requirements.
Connecting with People complements the two day suicide skills intervention training for health professionals
(STORM®) and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST). ASIST advocates a community-based approach to suicide prevention and is suitable for front line healthcare workers and the general public. Prior medical training is not required. STORM® is a well established and academically evaluated skills-based training package
