Connie Schultz:
A Columnist That Makes it Plain
From gun laws to false imprisonment, Connie Schultz of the Cleveland Plain Dealer will take one of the most controversial issues and mold it into a serious–yet humorous–argument. Schultz considers issues from a down to earth viewpoint; she can take other issues more personal, however. As Schultz builds her argument, she frequently includes: ethos, pathos, logos and statistics. Since her beginning, Schultz has always expressed personal views and beliefs through her writing. In her numerous columns Schultz discusses a wide variety of issues. Whether it be a topic that she is completely against, common issues, mild issues, or controversial issues. No matter what the topic however, Schultz will engage her readers in such a way where they can clearly consider her arguments while being abundantly entertained, and stimulated. In her column, We will Reveal those who Conceal, Schultz discussed the gun laws that allow citizens of Ohio to carry fully loaded concealed weapons to public areas. The law also stated that offices and schools weren’t allowed to let people know who 's carrying a concealed weapon. She argues that the law focuses more on the citizen who is carrying a concealed weapon, rather than those who do not. She 's states on why she 's against the law because it puts people in more unnecessary danger, and that if people were to carry weapons she would want to know who. Schultz also makes the column humorous by speaking in old western cowboy vernacular saying, “that gets Cowboy Jim 's spurs to spinnin '” as if we were in the “wild, wild west”. Schultz then skillfully uses statistics to strengthen her argument saying, “This was special-interest legislation passed solely for a handful of people incredibly well-funded. Poll after poll shows that 70 percent of Ohioans oppose the concealed-weapon law.” She gives readers proof that citizens
