Conrad's Use Of Conflict In The Film Ordinary People
In Ordinary People, it tells the story of Conrad Jarrett, as he goes through conflicts with his parents and friends. He faces not being accepted by a lot of different people since he tried to commit suicide after he blamed himself for his brothers death. Most of the conflicts he encounters are between him and his family and are fueled by his mother. There are many methods that could have been used to help the situation and make some progress in the relationship. Conrad had much conflict in this film and didn’t use very good strategies to handle them.

He could have done many things do help with these conflicts. Probably the best thing to do would be to make a safe place to talk, then encourage the others to open up and tell what they are feeling. Beth, Conrad's mother, was very quiet for most of the movie. When anything came up about Buck, her dead son, she would just completely shut down and just change the subject. She
Could have approached these in such better ways. She really needed to talk to someone about what she was going through, but instead she just kept all of it bottled up. You can tell she has a lot of emotions just being kept inside of her, because towards the end of the film, she blurts out
“Well Buck would have never been in the hospital in the first place”. This shows how much struggle she is going through. She needed to sit down with Conrad and talk about how she is feeling and hear the same from him. Calvin, Conrad’s father, Was more quiet during the movie. There was really only one scene where he expressed violence. A scene that showed how quiet he was, was when Conrad yelled at him for not giving Beth the camera, instead of talking to him and seeing where
