Education: Because my concentration is Family Nurse Practitioner, my graduate studies, is preparing me in the population of family/individual across the life-span.
Accreditation: I will be graduating from Tennessee State University (TSU). TSU Family Nurse Practitioner program is accredited by the Accreditation
Commission on Education in Nursing and are approved by the Tennessee State Board of Nursing (Professional Nursing Schools Approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing, 2016)
Certification: After graduation with MSN I will then then need to pass a national certification examination that tests me in in the APRN specialty that is beyond population-focused competencies related to the family/individual across the life-span (APRN Joint Dialogue Group Report, 2008). For example, I could sit for the ANCC Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner board certification examination.
Licensure: Only once I have meet all the requirements stated above will I be able to apply for licensure. Licensures will be provided once the board of nursing attains that I have met all the requirements in education, accreditation, and certification (APRN Joint Dialogue Group Report, 2008).
Once meeting all the requirements of LACE will I be to recognized as an APRN. The APRN Consensus document is a unanimous step forward towards a nationally recognized advanced practice registered nurse.
