One way that Phineas Gage shows us he is like a teen is that he takes more risks than usual, such as wanting to walking more than 20 miles to his Mom’s house. With that said this one point if risky behavior and not weighing would the consequences would be showing that at this point he is acting like an adolescent. Most people would argue that sometimes he acts like an teen and sometimes doesn’t. Phineas Gage acts like an adolescent when the doctor offers him a thousand dollars to trade him for the pebbles that he collected. Phineas says no, showing that he doesn’t know the concept of money and what its worth. Today most juveniles know about money and simple money concepts such as adding, subtracting and counting, along with knowing what it’s worth. The reason why he doesn’t understand money is that of the fact that the tapping rod went through his cortex which the part of your brain that …show more content…
controls your emotional expression, problem solving, memory, language, judgment, and physical behaviors. Again causing him to act like an adolescent.
Another way that Phineas behavior has been acting like an prepubescent is that fact that he has mood swings like most teens.
With these kind of mood swings that Phineas has been having it clearly shows that he can’t hot and cool cognition. So in this example Phineas starts as a nice man to angry men, like listening to is doctors and doing what they tell him to do. Then there are times where he is angry at his doctor and decides to not listen to his doctors at all. Most teens act like this because their hormones are changing making their life is a living rollercoaster. So this shows that Phineas brain is damaged and can't work the way an adults brain should be functioning. Therefore is brain is acting the way and adolescents brain
acts.
With this said it proves that Phineas Gage is acting like an teen, even though he physically isn’t growing the way a teen is. People could argue that he isn’t acting like an adolescent because he can do everyday things, but that doesn’t explain why adolescents today can do everyday things, but still act like an adolescent. Therefore Phineas Gage acts like a an juvenile.
