Different states have different policies. For instance Washington allows same-sex adoption by both partners as well as one partner adopting the other partner’s child. However, Florida completely outlaws adoption by one or both partners. Even though each state can somewhat put laws in place, an article published by ‘Focus on the Family’ states that “certain anti-discrimination laws in the U.S. ultimately mandate the adoption agencies to allow same-sex couples to adopt children” (Focus on the Family, 2013). So once again, federal law trumps state laws.
While some people take the political view on topics such as this, most folks decide to lean more towards the biblical side of things saying that children need a mother and father to properly grow up in this society. The child is already struggling with being placed in foster care, so starving them of love that only a mother and father can give goes against almost everything Christians believe in.
