There are three articles that I read in English that affected me. These readings were “Shoes,“ Consumerism may be the religion of our time” and “People should spend ethically to minimize the impacts of consumption” . I feel that these affected me the most because of the information it gave. The article “Shoes” affected me because I didn’t like how people were getting treated as only getting paid thirty cents an hour and they couldn’t even drink their own drinking water because of the pollution in it. After reading this article I learned to appreciate more and what people do for me. The second article I choose was “Consumerism may be the religion of our time.” This article affected me because it bothers me when people compare things to religion. Religion is nowhere near shopping. Religion is beliefs, traditions, learning and church. Where shopping is just spending money on things like clothes, electronics, shoes, ect. The last article I choose was “People should spend ethically to minimize the impacts of consumption” I choose this because it affects the way now how we go shopping at my house. We now use the local family business for the vegetables and fruits that we buy. Its healthy for us and better on the economy.
The first article that stood out to me was “Shoes” by Ryan and Alan Durning.” The arthur explains how to make shoes and what its doing to the earth and how the workers are treated. Ryan and Alan discuss the steps into making the shoes. The first step was the leather which is mostly cow leather. The cow was raised, slaughtered. and skin in texas then shipped to Pussa, South Korea. Then was sent to be tanned because its cheap overseas and it makes it soft and keeps it from decaying. Finally workers put it on a plane to be shipped while the tanning plant discharged hair, epidermis, leather scrapes, and processing chemicals into the Naktong River. Mostly Koreas tap water is not fit for humans to drink because of the
