Critical analysis and recommendations for retailers in the Electrical Goods sector
* The Retail Category
The Retail Category I have chosen is ‘Electrical Goods’. This category consists of retailers who specialise in: Computer hardware; computer software; white goods; brown goods and audio-visual. I have chosen this category as I have previous experience of working for Dixons Retail who owns the Currys and PC World store chains, as well as DSGi Business and pixmania.co.uk in the UK. I have a keen interest in computing and technology and visiting electrical goods retailers is a good way to keep up-to-date with new technology.
This particular category will make an interesting case category to help explore the module themes as electrical goods play a part in the everyday lives of almost everyone in the world due to the increased use of computers, smartphones and the Internet. The current global economic crisis has had a significant impact on electrical goods retailers so will make for interesting discussion, as will the growth of the Internet as a shopping medium and how it has impacted electrical goods retailing and retailers. Corporate Social Responsibility and the concept of a ‘green’ business model should also prove interesting when discussing the electrical goods sector. * * * * * * * * *
* Issues affecting the Retail Industry
Throughout this report, I will focus on three key issues affecting the Retail Industry and in particular how they affect the electrical goods
