One of the most vital aspects of fire protection is to recognize a budding fire emergency as soon as possible, and to notify the facility's tenants and proper emergency groups. This is the primary function of all fire detection and alarm systems. Depending on the expected fire situation, structures and type, quantity and occupants (health care, business, residential, industrial, and day care), and criticality of contents and mission, these systems can offer multiple key functions to aid in the safety of the occupants (Department of Veterans Affairs (Office of Construction & Facilities Management) , 2011). Their first two functions are the most vital. The first being a way to identify a fire hazard as it transpires through either manual or automatic methods. Secondly, it alerts the structures occupants to an imminent fire hazard and the need to withdraw from the building. Another common function in a non single family structure is to send an emergency alarm notification to the local emergency response organizations. Some systems are even designed to sensitive systems to…

What started as a small spark , possibly in a barn, ignited one of the most destructive and largest catastrophes, in Chicago’s history. The Great Chicago fire of 1871 is still a mystery. MAny have speculated, pointed fingers, and taken blame for the devastating fire that destroyed hundreds of acres, took many lives, and charred the Windy City to ashes. The truths to what really happened on that late night on the eighth of October may never be unravelled. Many do however feel that the evidence suggests that it was an accidental or a freak of nature and environmental conditions fueled the fire into rage letting it get out of control. The raging fire of almost 145 years ago still has scientists baffled, and remains a mystery today.…

Peaceful action allows a community to not only highlight the injustices of society, but to create a solution to the problem. To ensure the success of a nonviolent campaign, one must consider the sources of power of the opponent and the need for unity among the protesters. For example, in her Ted Talk, “The Secret to Effective Nonviolent Protest,” Jamila Raqib employs a graphic of a block tower, representing ISIS, with each block representing a necessary component of ISIS’s power, such as skilled labor. As these blocks are removed one by one, the structure of the tower crumbles, and ultimately collapses. Raqib uses a cause-and-effect relationship to illustrate how depriving opponents of their vital resources and institutions allows protesters to attack the oppressors at their foundation to break them from the ground up.…

There are a lot of incidents and emergencies that can happen in a health and social care setting despite of how cautious an organization is and how many precautions they must take. In health and social care many risk assessments are taken to make sure the place is safe but there are still few things that are unstable or accidents that are not expected to happen. The Staff’s duty is to work out how it happened and how to reduce the risk of it occurring again. Priorities are procedures that must be put into place in case of an emergency or incident that are considered more essential over other plan of actions. An emergency is usually unexpected, dangerous and sometimes life threatening. I will be discussing the two most important priorities and responses that must be taken into place in case of a possible emergency or incident in a hospital.…
