The film All Quiet on the Western Front took us on an experience of many German teenagers on the adventure of fighting in the World War I. World War I was the tragic conflict that causes the rumbling of peace to joining the fight. Whether the crisis in Europe started the war or assassination of the great leaders were the significant part of the causes of the World War I. And the war causes heavy damage and heavy casualties during the battle. All Quiet on the Western Front gave me an idea of how difficult was fighting in the World War I and fits into the world conflict.…
Prior to 9/11, America has increased dramatically with immigration reinforcement. One of the main goals for America was to prevent and detect for any terrorist behavior. America was determined to stop any another incident like 9/11 from happening ever again. The country developed more border security, racial profiling, and eliminated the immigration reform. Prior to 9/11, citizens of the United States didn’t have to show any legal documentation in order to enter the U.S. but after the attacks everyone was expected to have a legal document to get back into the country. The federal government is very informed about the who and what enters the country because most documents contain a RFID chip ,that contains information about the individual, is…
Do terrorists have rights? Should Terrorists have legal protection? This is not an easy question to answer. This question poses an interesting dilemma, reason being these people are on the Federal Government’s list of most dangerous criminals. Also, most if not all are not legal U.S. naturalized citizens. The US Constitution clears states that in Article one section nine halts Congress from stopping the “honor” of habeas corpus in all cases excluding cases of revolt or assault. However, all humans have so- called “natural rights” and that’s what the Constitution and Deceleration of Independence are all about. According to (businessdictionary.com) natural rights are defined as political theory that maintains that an individual enters into society with certain basic rights and that no government can deny these rights. The modern idea of natural rights grew out of the ancient and medieval doctrines of natural law, i.e., the belief that people, as creatures of nature and God, should live their lives and organize their society on the basis of rules and precepts laid down by nature or God. With the growth of the idea of individualism, especially in the 17th cent., natural law doctrines were modified to stress the fact that individuals, because they are natural beings, have rights that cannot be violated by anyone or by any society. The Bill Of Rights observes some of the natural rights’ and the Fifth Amendment specifies that, in criminal cases, “No person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process”. Equally, without the 5th amendment, all people have the so-called “natural right” to due process. As always you need your chance to prove you’re innocence before they prove your guilt.…
Race is essentially a “social construct” and has little relations to biological distinctions among humans. Race was a multicolored pyramid created to put whites on top and blacks on the bottom. It was a device created by Anglo Saxons who felt empowered and race was a tool they molded in order to stay in power.…
Immigration is the process of foreigners settling into another country permanently for the purpose of employment, education, or any other purpose. Immigration has been an issue to United States for decades. The question whether Immigration in US is harmful to the country or not has been debated since ages and will be a subject of debate in future too. We have seen that being immigrant in US has helped many of the immigrants whereas on the other side it has been a leading cause of problems like depression, suicide etc. Being immigrant in US for someone means a lot of difficulties in terms of adapting to the foreign soil. An individual has to start a new life from ground zero regardless of his/her position in the previous countries. There is an only 5% chance that any individual can continue the career from where he/she dropped from the country of origin which brings a lot of depression among the immigrants. For most people, being amongst friends and relatives means a lot and gives happiness and relief to their lives. In this case nothing can be a substitute of the affection of relationships. Being immigrants, they have to stay thousands of miles apart and have to suffer this separation each and every day which leads to loneliness. This can also be a cause of depression for more than 70% immigrants according to a survey report. Big difference in the skills and education also sets the immigrants back from finding the right job at the start. Even though an immigrant has knowledge and skills from their previous homeland but due to the requirement of the US companies that the education and experience be from the US based companies, immigrants are finding harder to match the job with their skills. A lot of foreigners who move to US had first-class jobs in high positions before they were immigrants. When they reach US, it is now a different ball game. Some have hard times to find their match and thus, have to…
education. Many argue that education should be available and accessible for every individual regarding ethnicity or how a person looks and is. Those with higher education seek to getting a better paying job in the future and have a much stable career opportunity which allows the person to give back to the community and spread the word on how important being educated is and how when a person tries their best they will get far in life.…
Everyone thinks that illegal immigrants are doing no harm to society. Little do they know they are making American citizens lose jobs and money. Building a wall on our southern border…
In this excerpt written by Bruce Ackerman, it is obvious he trying to persuade his readers to be engaged and active American citizens. His opinions and ideas illustrate his exhausted feelings towards the Supreme Court’s and conservatives interpretations of the Constitution. Ackerman’s goals are to prove to his readers that citizens need to play a greater role in American democracy through a set of institutions.…
In history class the United States of America was commonly referred to as a “Melting Pot” of cultural and racial backgrounds. The open–immigration policy that was maintained until the late nineteenth century helped to populate the United States. From 1800 thru 1890, the United States population grew from 5.3 million to 62.6 million (Brunner 392). Immigration had a huge impact on how the United States grew socially and economically. It was a new world that offered hope and new beginnings. It was place of safety and freedom, a place where opportunity and success could be found around every corner. Today some still see the United States as a place to prosper, however to those who were born and lived here see it in a different light. It is a place where native born citizens are continually being pushed out of their communities because of weak immigration policies. They deal with overcrowded education systems and lack of adequate job opportunities to support themselves and families and where politicians say one thing when to get in office do another when there. A survey that was taken in September 1994 showed that out of 800 people, 49 percent were bothered about the presence of illegal immigrants. Over a decade later in April 2007, 45 percent of 1009 people surveyed were personally worried about the presence of illegal immigration (Segovia 378). With these social, economic, and political inequities, the United States must adopt and implement stronger immigration policies restricting immigration and preventing further deterioration of its society.…
Immigration laws are a commonly brought up, controversial subject among U.S officials. There are 4 seperate arguments from the supporting side, with the only question being what branch of the government should be in charge of them, and how. The first argument is that immigration dilutes or change existing languages, religions, cultural norms, etc. The second argument is that immigrants will flock to countries with generous social welfare programs, resulting in urban slums and flooded social networks. The third argument is that immigration can harm the country they come from if the departing immigrants are high-skilled in labor. The fourth argument is that that immigration lowers the income and job availability of domestic, low-skill workers.…
Since 2001, when September 11th happened, many people in the United States have developed a fear of allowing immigrants into the U.S. It went to levels of border control and more. Therefore some judge that immigration is a threat to the U.S. They should not consider that because everything that occurs is not due to immigrants. The government can stop illegal immigration right now but would it not affect the U.S. more to do so? Restrictionists claim that large-scale immigration-legal and illegal-has depressed wages, burdened government resources, and acted as a net drain on the economy. Thus, if immigration was eliminated, the U.S. would have fewer workers. With a reduction of workers, money would be less therefore, causing the economy to plunge. People come to the U.S. to work and make a living, why would the government want to stop that? “If Americans would simply cut their own grass, clean their own houses, and care for their own children, there would be no need for immigrant labors”. But even if this were true, the overall economy would hardly benefit from having fewer workers. Without immigrants, the economy would not flow smoothly because the workers make the jobs and economy better. Third world immigration is not a threat to America’s way of life because immigrants work, immigrants participate.…
One of the most controversial political issues today is the topic of Illegal immigration. Illegal immigration is a problem that affects all Americans. Illegal immigration describes the long term shift of populations across national borders without complying with the legal requirements. Illegal immigration is probably one of the oldest controversial topics, for the last thousand years beginning with the foundations of ancient Rome and Europe in the middle ages immigration and border security has been one of the biggest problems a country can overcome. Motte-and-bailey keeps and castles were first formed to protect a small courtyard and keep from being attacked from outsiders. They would surround their lands with a large wooden fence and only allow a single point of entry onto their grounds. Sitting on top of the motte near the rear of the lands stood another wooden fence surrounding the wooden or stone structure known as the keep. These wooden structures did not last for long as they could burn down easily; but with the utilization of stone innovations taken from middle eastern Muslims, Europe soon began much bigger stone castles with layers of stone walls and eventually brought back rural living by employing these techniques to surround entire cities.…
Illegal immigration is an on-going issue, which is of much importance in the United States today. It has been overlooked for many years, however it has reached a point where it can no longer be ignored. Most of the illegal immigrants, 54% to be exact, come through the Mexican border. (Hayes 5) Since the early 1980’s, the number of illegal Mexican immigrants has risen at an incredible rate, causing the United States government to take action to create an even-handed solution that would be in the interest of both the illegal Mexicans and the citizens of the United States. This, however, has proven to be very difficult since it is still an issue today. The argument is that the illegal immigrants are taking jobs away from American workers, hurting the economy, destroying American culture and the way of life, and are responsible for a big part of crimes and drug trafficking. On the other side of the spectrum, many people believe that the illegal immigrants are noble people who cross the border for a chance at a better life, that they do not harm the countries economy, and that they do not deface America’s culture. The different opinions about illegal immigration is the source of all of the chaos, which is yet to be resolved. The real issue at hand is to focus on creating a reasonable and justified solution to this controversial and pressing debate that has divided the nation into pro-immigration and anti-immigration beliefs.…
A community issue that is important to me, is a lack of youth minority role models. This is an issue to me because minorities need someone to look up to and someone to lead them. Especially in the African American community when fatherly or a typically male played role is not always there. Not having a role model can easily affect a child and their aspirations. That is why I think there should be more minority role models, so other minorities students will have one another to support and one another to look up to. To fix this community issue, minority students would have to do is hold one another accountable and expect one another to do all that they can to succeed. Roles models can shape a person, regardless of the sex, religion, class etc. Though a role model that looks like you can touch you even closer than someone may not.…
Immigration in the United States continues to be an intense national debate. In order to make an educated decision on this disputation and choose a side for it, one must know the following information and/or have a good understanding of it: You need to know both sides of the argument, the current laws that the United States has for immigration, then, the current number of immigrants in the United States. First, the two sides of the debate are straightforward. The liberals, who support legal immigration and amnesty for those who enter the country illegally, and the conservatives, who support legal immigration, but oppose amnesty for those who enter the country illegally (Steinbacher). Then, immigration in the United States is based upon the…
