Controversy over the Death Penalty

The controversy over the death penalty has always been a popular subject of debate. People who support their side of the issue have strong evidence to support their opinions. Although there are arguments against the death penalty, I believe the benefits outweigh the faults.

Some people believe that a disadvantage of the death penalty is that it wont prevent heinous crimes from happening. However, I believe that stricter death penalty laws would prevent criminals from daring to commit these crimes. Right now criminals wait for decades on death row, but with more immediate action criminals would be more intimidated and less likely to commit the atrocious crimes. Justice is better served. The most fundamental principle of justice is that the punishment should fit the crime. When someone plans and brutally murders another person, doesn't it make sense that the punishment for the perpetrator also be death?

One argument against the death penalty is that it is un-ethical to take another life. However, the people who are on death row are there for their un-ethical actions. For example, someone who is a mass murderer deserves the death penalty right away. The death penalty ensures justice will be maintained in our country.

As you can see, many points can be made about the death penalty. Some in favor of the death penalty and some opposed.
