A SHORT SPEECH - “COOKING AS HOBBY”

A very good morning to our respected lecturer’s, sir M. Kalidass, and my fellow friends. I am Nurin Jazlina. Today, I want to give a speech about “cooking as hobby”. By the way, let me explain the definition of hobby first. Hobby is something that one likes to do in one’s spare time. The Oxford Dictionary defines hobby as a favourite activity that a person does for pleasure and not as his or her regular business. In short, hobby is one’s favourite past time. Hobby is not an inborn inclination. Cooking means the practice or skills of preparing food by combining, mixing and heating ingredients. There are many enjoyable hobbies. But nothing can even come close to cooking as a hobby when it comes to the benefits that people derive from it. Everyone needs to incorporate cooking into their lifestyle because of health benefits. But the other benefits are important too. One of the benefits of cooking is you’ll will learn something new. This is perhaps the most obvious benefit of sharing a cooking experience. My mother is very accomplished in the kitchen. During the weekend, I learned from her two different meals. I’ve often tried teaching myself to prepare recipes on my own. Most of the time it works out well enough, but having someone watch my technique and give me pointers made the learning process much more effective and prevented me from developing less than helpful habits. The other benefit of cooking is you’ll strengthen the relationship. Preparing a meal with a loved one is a powerful tool that helps to strengthen the bond you have with that person. Plus, it creates some lovely memories. No wonder you don’t have to encourage most women to cook up a new dish. It is a reward in itself. There is no need for additional motivation. Cooking as a hobby is the easiest to do among all rewarding hobbies. If you want to paint you must have the talent. If you

Rarely do I ever cook, so doing it for the first time seems really fun! When I do something nice for someone or something else, I feel much happier on the giving side as opposed to the receiving end. This can be compared to american football, when the quarterback passes the ball to the wide receiver. In this scenario, even though the receiver gets the glory, the truth is all the hard work was put in by the quarterback. The feeling of giving is unparalleled to any other. In conclusion, cooking for once would make me feel nice.…

By learning about a food, you can’t just know how it will taste. By doing research you may learn about what’s in it or how it’s made. When I went to a cheer competition with my friend, we stayed at her Aunt’s house. Her aunt made a different kind of pie, I had never heard of it. My friend and her mom explained it to me and they were looking up things about it. When we got to her house and I actually tried it, it was really gross. It was not at all like I expected.…

As said before by many people, the better man in certain situations is the person that learns that they are wrong, are willing to learn from their mistakes, for the sake that they will be able to move on forward from what they learned. The North and the south are like a teacher and student, the North can teach the South as a student how lead the reconstruction era for it to become successful however, its up to the South as the student to see what they think is best. As so the South did act foolish and led to many missed out opportunities for its lands to become successful with allowing the blacks to live as an everyday white person. Now, “the better man is the person who learns from their mistakes” and so that is why I placed the North as the teacher, they learned from their civil war in order to have had been shaped into a great place. Now no side is perfect at this point, with the North agreeing upon the…

Cooking something yourself, either if it’s for yourself or others, gives the reward and satisfaction of accomplishment. However, these days it’s so much easier to go out to eat or run through the drive through. I’m seeing more and more younger kids growing up without the skills of cooking that has been passed down from generation to generation. We have grown away from bonding as a family by everyone eating at the dinner table at night. We have come more and more accustomed to just grabbing our plate and sitting down in front of the T.V. instead of interacting with the ones around…

Michael Pollan’s “Out of the Kitchen, Onto the Couch”, is a stimulating article that starts out with Pollan describing how he watches Julia Child on the TV show, “The French Chef” as a child with his mother after school, then eating Julia’s recipes for dinner. Pollan’s purpose in writing this article is to bring people’s attention to the reasons why there is a decrease of home cooking and an increase of processed (fast) foods. Pollan supported his view by taking the readers through culinary history from Julia Child to the Food Network. Pollan’s goal is to encourage people to cook more by themselves rather than ordering food.…

Just imagine a life without cooking, so basically no food. I’m sure for some people they are thinking; yeah my speech is about food. Well sorry it’s not, I’m talking about the cooking part of the whole food making process. Basically my speech is about how I started to like cooking from the very beginning, also all the history going way back in time for cooking. Cooking is my natural high, whenever I have the chance to cook that is all I do for hours or a whole day if possible. In my opinion I fell that cooking just came to me naturally and I did not even have to get taught anything. Even though you obviously you have to learn the basics first I fell that I didn’t even need too. My passion for cooking all started when I first helped my mom make German chocolate cake. That’s the very first thing I learned how to cook independently with no help at all. After that it was nonstop making everything including cupcakes, Italian cigar rolls, also German cake and sausage. Then shortly after that’s all I did no matter what I was doing or how busy. Everything was great after I learned how to cook well, because me and my grandma tried new things and put different ingredients together every day. Unfortunately all of a sudden some difficult news hit me when I got home from school one day. Well I just began to make a new recipe that my grandma and I just made up to try it out. That’s exactly when my phone rang to say that my grandma died of a sudden heart attack. At that point I was devastated but the only way to make me happy was to keep on cooking to help keep her passion for cooking alive with me. My whole life I already knew that my passion would always be cooking. After my grandma died I realized how much more it meant to me as my passion forever. Well that is my life story of how my passion came to be and why it is still the number one thing to do. Cooking is a little hard to say a definition for. Well cooking is the consumption with the use of heat. Cooking techniques and…
