Subject: Cooperation Alternatives between Universities and Industry
This memo outlines the goals of R&D department to increase the level of cooperation between universities and the industry to create two-sided benefits.
The education system and its content become more relevant and integrated with the sector each year. Universities prepare their students as assertive candidates to the sector, and the sector tries to snatch the best ones and educate them more within the firm to be their next best managers. As one of the leading brands in the industry we should affiliate with this mutualism to carry on our competitive advantage.
As the first step, we will make donations to the universities in need for funds to achieve the development they are striving for. These donations will increase the quality in faculties’ education programs and help them coach more qualified students who are open to change. Besides, the publicity of this attempt will create a more positive perception of our brand.
To benefit from this cooperation our company should invest more in education related to research and development. As the Research and Development Manager, I would suggest that we should invest to already existing foundations or establish our own foundation to support a series of Engineering Research Centers, like NSF (National Science Foundation) did in United States. Other firms in different industries will also support this program to their own benefit, and our managers will use this opportunity to gather more information about their sectors and competitors to be more proactive.
The managers who were educated and improved in these Engineering Research Centers will be more familiar with the concept of Managing the Technology. As the Research and Development department, we will continue to use technology as our main strategic advantage tool; and the need for managing and transferring the technology efficiently, is going to increase with time.
