Copper Plant
Copper is an element that occurs in minor amounts in the earth’s crust. Estimates of average crustal prevalence are on the order of 0.0058 percent by weight. Deposits considered to be economically recoverable at current market prices may contain as little as 0.5 percent of copper or less, depending on the mining method, total reserves, and the geologic setting of the deposit. Here is the flow sheet on how to process copper from Zenith.
Copper Process Flow Sheet:
Copper ore is first quarried from the copper mountain and the raw materials are got. Next is to process and mine the raw copper materials. They are sent into jaw crusher for primary crushing through vibrating feeder. After the raw materials are crushed into coarse ones, with belt conveyor, they enter into impact crusher or cone crusher for the secondary crushing.
There are two different copper ores, the oxide ore and the sulfide ore. The oxide ores are commonly leached, while the sulfide ores are beneficiated in flotation machine. Then the following mining and processing is divided into two types.
The fine sulfide ore is going to froth flotation machine for recovery of copper. The coarser ore goes to the heap leach, where the copper is subjected to a dilute sulfuric acid solution to dissolve the copper. Then the leach solution containing the dissolved copper is subjected to a process called solvent extraction. The solvent extraction process concentrates and purifies the copper leach solution so the copper can be recovered at a high electrical current efficiency by the electro winning cells. It does this by adding a chemical reagent to the solvent extraction tanks which selectively binds with and extracts the copper, is easily separated from the copper (stripped), recovering as much of the reagent as possible for re-use. The concentrated copper solution is dissolved in sulfuric acid and sent to the electrolytic cells for recovery as copper plates.

In this experiment, we took a look at how copper (Cu0) reacts with different substances to get an end result where it is transformed back to its original state. There were five different reactions that involved copper. We first experimented with copper metal and converted it to copper (II) nitrate. We then converted copper (II) nitrate to copper (II) hydroxide. Next, we converted copper (II) hydroxide to copper (II) oxide. After that, out next conversion was from copper (II) oxide to copper (II) sulfate. Our last conversion was from copper (II) sulfate back to a copper metal.…

Reaction 1, we start with 0.503 g copper metal that dissolves in 5.0 mL of concentrated nitric acid. This is an example of redox as a transfer of electrons is occurring. The second part of the reaction allows the nitrate ion to oxidize the copper. Reaction two, while stirring 20 mL of 6.0 M NaOH was added to the flask. Hydroxide ion binds to the copper (II). This is an example of metathesis as the cations and anions exchange partners. Reaction Three, Heating the copper hydroxide to a medium boil on the hotplate while occasionally stirring produces copper oxide. Heating allows for decomposition. It also allows the copper to oxidize. 50 mL of hot water was added three times and then decanted the supernatant solution. Reaction 4, Copper oxide is dissolved with 5 mL of 6.0M Sulfuric Acid. This allows the Oxygen to bind with to water and allow the Copper (II) ion to reform. Reaction 5, 1.0 g of 30-mesh Zinc is added. Start with half and add remain half of zinc until solution lacks the blue hue. Followed by adding 10 mL of concentrated HCl. This should eliminate the zinc through gas form decant the liquid and heat until copper is dry. Weigh out the flask + copper. Then determine the percent…

The iron is extracted from its oxide ore called Hematite. Many things are produced in the extracting or iron from iron ore in a blast furnace. The iron ore is reacted with carbon and oxygen in the furnace to produce carbon dioxide and iron metal. Carbon monoxide is also produced so that it can react with the iron ore to produce the iron. At the end, there is left the molten iron and the slag.…
