Copper Sun is an exceptional good read. The book teaches us multiple lessons about how you should always persevere through the difficult times just like the two main characters in the book, Polly and Amari. They did this throughout their whole journey. It also demonstrated to us how you should always look on the bright side to things and try to stay positive even when you think the whole world is against you. This one book teaches us so many lessons that can help us along in the future.
Not only is it an exhilarating read, however it also educates us on our own past and how slavery played a big role in the U.S development. It also shows us how we mistreated human beings because of our ignorance. As Sharon M. Draper once wrote “We must welcome our guests, then, Amari. We would never judge people simply by how they looked—that would be uncivilized…Let us prepare for a celebration.” (Draper 5). It also informed us on what it was like to be a slave and all the torture they endure. Without this book I would of never have had a good grasp on what happened during those gruesome times. Another reason why you should read this book to future grades, is because it relates to what is being taught in Social Studies, which is also slavery and African culture. We found out many new things about their history such as how they had schools, law systems, art, advanced legal systems and many more things. This tied together very well with the other
